Hey everyone. I am an OOS transfer coming in as a sophomore at UNC this fall. Being new to the school and all, I have a few questions about the billing process:

I’m in-state, but I got an email from UNC today that we are getting our tuition bills emailed to us this week. I don’t know much about your other questions, just that they voted to increase everybody’s tuition recently hence the delay with the bills.

The chancellor’s office sent out an email yesterday saying that we (OOS) will have a 1500 increase from the early projection. The tuition and fees total is officially 25,280. The bills will be sent out in the next week or so and you can view them in the “Finances” section of your Connect Carolina page. Hopefully we’ll get some more financial aid, but I wouldn’t count on it =/

UNC says they are recalculating financial aid packages to reflect the new cost of attendance (38% of the increases are being spent on additional financial aid), but it’s unclear when we will know our revised aid packages . . .

OOS tuition originally was raised $927 for the 2010-11 school year, then the NC General Assembly gave campuses the ability to raise tuition up to an additional $750 to cover large budget cuts. UNC and NC State decided to take the entire $750 increase…That makes OOS tuition increase $1677 over what it was last year. Fees are $1850 for all students. Total OOS tuition+fees = $25280. In-state students are getting a $950 increase ($200 from last year’s approved rate and the $750). 100% of the $200 increase is going to financial aid, along with 20% of the $750.

Out of the 10 other peer institutions, only Pittsburg, UT-Austin and Univ of Wisconsin-Madison have lower OOS tuition.

Oh, yea I did see that peer institution bit in the email. But I didn’t understand the U Pitt comparison they made since that’s a private school (and thus not really comparable to a public school) so the tuition is the same for everyone. Plus, even if their tuition is cheaper they pay an arm and a leg for food and housing.
