UNC Scholarship Day Invitation & Date

What is the date for the the UNC scholarship Day for admitted strudents who have been invited? It sounds like this year both ED and RD students are going to the same day. Have any RD students been invited already? My S was admitted on 3-18 but hasn't heard anything and I think its coming up pretty soon... .

It is 3/25 for ED. I can’t imagine they are doing both the same day. It is only a week later.

My son received an email inviting him to scholars day several weeks ago, but did not receive his official email decision until yesterday or the day before. The invitation implied he was accepted and asked for an rsvp for scholars day asap. Hope this helps.

Same scholar day March 25th.

Normally they do two separate days, but today they are just doing one for both deadlines. So like ncmomx3 said, I assume that they have sent out all the invitations by now.

Has anyone received the email with their pre-reading material for scholarship day? I thought this was supposed to be sent 1 week in advance?

Registration ended yesterday according to My Events on Connect Carolina. I would assume that they’re going to send out the material either today or tomorrow.

Yes, if you RSVPed to Scholarship Day, you should have gotten an email today stating that the reading material will be sent out tomorrow.

So I’m going to scholarship day and I got an article on the importance of education from UChicago… but my friend got a different article. Is this just because different small groups talk about different things? Does this have anything to do with what scholarships we’re being considered for because I thought we were all considered for all of them and depending on how we do, we get specific ones?!? Also, if anyone has good suggestions or anything… i.e. what kind of attire we should wear? how should we prepare? what the essay is like? when we find out what we got? etc, etc, that’d be great! Thank you so much!

This should help.

IRFreak, fear not. Basically you’ll sit at different tables and each table will meet with a certain member of the faculty to talk about the article that they picked. It has nothing to do with what scholarship you’re going to get. :-)

Definitely don’t under-dress. Business casual should be fine. I think I wore slacks, a button down, and blazer (I’m a girl).

Read the essay and think about it. If you’re confused about anything, google it up a little bit. Let the thoughts percolate. Be intelligent but not a jerk.

And talk to the scholar at your table… it could be me. Always in it for the free food.

Thank you so much!

I’m back! lol so I felt good about Scholarship Day overall. I think I wrote a pretty strong essay. However, I was wondering if once you get to the point of being invited to Scholarship Day, do they still go back and look at your original application or do they mainly focus on your participation and essay from scholarship day? I’m just kind of worried because I wish I would’ve tried a little harder on my original application essays…

Has anyone heard anything yet? I thought we might get a letter today based on what we were told in the parent session.

Our mail has already come today and there was nothing from UNC.

Nope! I think they said that they’d get back to us in about two weeks, so… we’ve still got a bit left to go. I’m pretty sure, anyway.

^Actually he said “by next Friday”. I was pretty shocked to hear it would be that soon. He said the teacher recommendations had to be in by noon Monday and then they just needed to generate the letters.

Hmm, I see. Well, I’m a student, so I wasn’t privy to that information. That’s exciting, though. Thanks!

Dave Meredith said in the parent meeting last week that the professors had to have their feedback to him by Monday (this week) and then on Tuesday and Wednesday they would process the information and would then send out the letters (snail mail) by Thursday or Friday of this week.

NC Mom - Didn’t see your post till after I posted. I heard the same as you.

Good luck everyone! Let’s all post the results here!
