UNC Transfer Fall 2020

Chance me?

I applied last year as a freshman but was waitlisted and ultimately denied. I am applying as a sophomore transfer now.

White female, In-state, Chatham County

High School:
UW GPA: 3.84
6 AP courses and 5 dual enrollment CC courses
Member of several honor societies, leader of 2 clubs, lots of volunteering
Worked 15 hours per week at a restaurant for half of high school

SAT: 1430

College:
NC State University
GPA: 4.0
15 credits last semester and 12 this semester (though, I did get a job and am in an honors course that is 0 credits) + I am taking summer classes
Will have 59 credits by Fall 2020
University Honors Program, pre-health student, dean’s list, living in the WISE Village, member of a couple of other clubs
Work as a stockroom assistant for organic chemistry labs

I plan to major in neuroscience at UNC and I’m really not sure if that’s a competitive program or not.

Essays: Both well-written, revised by several different faculty members at NCSU, a couple of friends, and another professional

Getting into UNC means the world to me.

Good luck everyone.

Alright lol
Chance me:

Current undergraduate freshman at NCSU got waitlisted and then rejected coming out of HS
Hs gpa: 3.6 uw 4.2 w - a lot Bs in APs
College: 1st semester: 3.87 - No Bs
A lot ECs from HS not too many from college, essays were okay i think but nothing too special
SAT: 1400
Econ major

This is probably REALLY far-fetched lol but have you guys tried making an Onyen? I got my PID by entering last 6 digits of SSN, first/last name, b-day and then I clicked forgot Onyen on the website. It said no Onyen found (probably obvious), but I’m curious if anyone has been able to make one. This probably means nothing but nervousness makes you do weird stuff lol

For any of you in-state kids who have made the Admissions Status Portal account, is your residency determined as in-state because my residency is shown as out of state even though I have been validated as in state.

You mean on mycarolina? Nothing about residency shows for me

@mkmk29 i validated residency and then it disappeared from my portal after a couple days. I called and they said that I was being considered as in state. I’d call tomorrow and make sure there haven’t been any hiccups in your residency determination

Don’t read anything into that. They’re most likely not even looking at transfer applicants yet.

They didn’t look at my file and make a judgement until 3/17 last year.

Mine was also shown as “non resident” at first even though I am validated as in state. I called and they said it must be a glitch with the portal because they had me as a in state resident in their files. Luckily, the next day the glitch disappeared.

@Mcunn226 @unchopeful99 - Where is the residency status located in mycarolina? Mine only shows a checklist of items and ACT score report. Thank you!

It showed up below where my test scores were shown, but I’m pretty sure it only shows up if you are classified as a non resident. In other words, if it does not show up, you should be classified as a resident.

@unchopeful99 hmm, my residency is in CA. My father lives in NC but I’ve never visited for more than a couple weeks at a time. Plus I’m independent so don’t think his residency would be a factor. Maybe it doesn’t show until all check marks are completed? High school transcript hasn’t been received yet. I’ll see if it changes once the application is complete. Thank you

Hi! Just wondering lol, but how do you know when they looked at your file?

@unchopeful24 I was wondering the same but forgot to ask lol

Would be showing 28 credits
42 credits at the end of my freshman year. Very fearful my high school grades will hold me back. However, they do show resiliency.

Hey! So this is my third time applying so I am familiar with the steps to go about after submitting the application and information. I just opened MyCarolina Status Portal and my ACT score is showing up from my transfer submission last year. I did not resubmit it this year, would this show up on their end for this year’s submission or is it just showing in the portal because it is linked to my name? If so, is there a way to remove it? Thanks

If I were in your position, I’d call them tomorrow about it.

@allmightychemist i have my scores from when I applied as a Senior still on my portal. I called them up and they said AO’s would only see scores that I listed on my transfer app. They didn’t provide the most clear/definitive answer so, if you call, please post back what they tell you.

i submitted my application last night at 7 but still haven’t gotten an email about MyCarolina. how soon did you guys get yours after applying?

@justicebeaver I received the email less than 24 hours later but it definitely wasn’t immediate. I wouldn’t worry until at least 72 hours goes by and you still don’t have it.

I have a question if anyone can help. This email made me nervous, particularly the withdraw part. I submitted my application without Common App receiving my transcripts. Totally my error, input all colleges attended but neglected to note the transcripts required part. CH has received my college transcripts but the high school was just mailed out on 02/13. It will probably get there long before 03/12 but would they likely withdraw a transfer app based on not receiving a high school transcript? Thanks

Thank you again for applying to Carolina! It looks like you have remaining application items to submit, which you can view in your MyCarolina checklist. To move forward with your application, we ask that you submit all required materials no later than March 12.

Otherwise, we will withdraw your application, or at our discretion, we will proceed with your application as it is, without these materials.
