Any predictions on the date decisions are released based on the last few years? Also if there are former transfer students that were accepted to UNC on this thread could you guys explain how the timeline is if you are admitted?
Around the 2nd Week of April. Here’s my timeline (with dates and time from last year)
You get an email reminding you to check the portal. (4/2, 4:04pm)
You obsessively refresh said portal.
Decision eventually happens. (4/8, 4:02pm)
Accept your offer. Pay your fee.
Get your PID (personal identification number. Get your ONYEN (Only Name You'll Ever Need) - essentially your username that's also your email handle - I'm "mcunn" for example.
Get Transfer Credit Report (4/11, 10:12am)
Enroll in courses (I enrolled for summer session by the 12th, I think).
Need some advice. I’m applying as Junior transfer. UNC has my act score which is low. My sat is slightly better. Neither is required as Junior transfer but since they have my act I’m wondering if I should provide sat score too or just leave it alone.
Thanks for your reply, very helpful. Seems like everything moves pretty fast once decisions come out. Do you have any advice on anything we can do to improve our chances between now and the decision date? I assume not and it’s just a wait and see approach, but I figured I would ask.
There isn’t much you can do at this point unless you discover the cure for Coronavirus or cold fusion. If your application told a good story about how you would add to the UNC family, and you have the academic credentials that UNC demands, then you’ve got a good shot.
My story is what got me in. I was in college 20 years ago and tanked. Hard. I decided to get back into this a few years ago and wrote a story about my motivations. Two admissions people looked at my file - one declined based on my previous history (ignoring my 3.93 GPA on 48 credits in CC recently) and the other supported me thanks to my essays.
At this point, you just need to calm down, sit down, and wait. You’ve got about six weeks and they probably haven’t looked at your application yet (mine wasn’t looked at until 3/17).
Is anybody still missing application materials? According to MyCarolina I have everything except my HS transcripts. Even though I mailed out my HS transcripts on the 5th and 15th of February. Apparently they got lost. So I had to drive up to UNC a third time on Friday the 28th and hand them a third copy my HS transcripts. I worried that something may happen again and my application won’t be considered. Has anybody else had problems with UNC receiving transcripts?
@Starfoxx87 I think it takes admissions a couple days to update portals but it wouldn’t hurt to call and confirm they have it on file. Had a slight issue with University of Richmond not checking off necessary items even though I clearly included them as directed on Common App before submitting. A quick call cleared things up. Good luck!
@Starfoxx87, same experience here. Submitted the THIRD request to HS guidance counselor last week. I assumed the issue was with the HS, but seeing your post makes me wonder. Following up, but it is concerning.
@Mcunn226 Wow, that’s awesome that they didn’t base your application solely off of what happened 20 years ago, I’m sure you’re a great representative of UNC. How are you able to see the date they viewed your application?
If you didn’t waive your FERPTA rights on your application you can go see your admissions file. Most of it is your Common App and transcripts, but the notes of the admissions team that looked at your docs are included with quotes and the date they looked at it.
@statetransfer I don’t remember where I read it, but from my understanding legacy helps if you’re OOS, but doesn’t really do anything if you’re in-state. However if your dad went to UNC and donated a building or such you’re probably good either way lol.
@unchopeful99 unless they start reducing staff in the admissions and financial aid departments or shut them down entirely then I don’t think the decision process will be effected much. But if the virus continues to spread the way it has…no telling what the future may hold.
Is anyone familiar with the UNC admissions? Do they take GPA into great consideration?. My GPA isn’t the best but it is not the worst. My GPA is increasing, there isn’t a decrease. I wonder if I will be able to get accepted.
