I know getting off a waitlist is very difficult but exactly how low are my chances?

I have already planned on staying at my current institution, NC State, another year because of my relatively low chances.

here are my stats:
My college stats:
First Semester GPA: 4.08/4.33 (4.0 max showed on transcript)
Fall 2005 Classes:
Academic Writing and Research- B+
Inorganic Chemistry- A+
Calculus I- A+
Introduction to Psychology- A+
2 Introductory Engineering Classes- A+

Spring 2006 Classes:
Second Semester GPA: 4.0/4.33 (4.0 max showed on transcript)
Organic Chemistry- A-
Physics for Engineers I- A
Economics- A
Calculus II- A+
Weight Lifting- Satisfactory

My thought was that maybe they waitlisted me to see if I could do well the second semester. Or maybe it was the whole, "your good but not good enough" adage.

You were waitlisted with a 4.0 in college. Most of the people I've talked to have said that it's much easier to get into UNC as a transfer and that anything higher than a 3.5 gives you a good chance. I'm really not sure why you didn't get in.

yeah, i'm a sophomore transfer. it may have to do with my lack of ec's but I did have a reasonable number of notable ones.
boy scouts, volunteering at red cross and other things that i listed on my app.
i told them that i will be doing a biomed internship at a hospital this summer along with holding a job and volunteering at the american red cross.
so hopefully i'll get off the waitlist. i'm not going to get my hopes up too much though.

my friend applied as a transfer and got in with a 3.52 gpa last year and had good recs and decent essays...idk why you didnt get , hopefully it works out for you

Yeah your case is very strange. It's a damn shame really. A public college rejecting 4.0 candidate (in state resident at that too) from a solid state school lik NC. Apply ASAP next semester and keep those grades up; I'm positive you'll get in.

well technically I am not out of the running yet, however thanks for the responses everyone. maybe i'll give the admissions department a call sometime to see whats up.

I have no idea how you didn't get in. I know you were waitlisted so there is still a chance but you should of been flat out admitted. Maybe they have you confused with someone else.

When applying as a sophomore tranfer student, the high school transcript plays a big role. This included SAT's as well as course grades. Did you take the most difficult classes offered at your high school, ie. AP's?

Your college grades are excellent, but UNC didn't see your second semester grades when you were waitlisted. Have you sent your final transcript in yet? If not, do so right away. That might make a big difference as I see people getting off of the transfer wait list already.

ive always been told to help the inferior members of society, so since i got into unc as a transfer, i have decided to give that spot to someone else.

I echo the above: you should have gotten in. Call the adcoms, write a letter talking about what you are doing/ your greatr spring grades/ your desire to go to UNC, and then call a couple more times "confirming" the receipt of the letter and talking to an actual adcom. Ask if there is anything you may do to get higher on the list.
