Hi, I'm a junior right now in Central High in Philly (top public HS in the city), and I wanted to assess my chances at a few schools, mainly:

University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (Flagler)
University of Virginia (McIntosh)
Villanova University (VSB)
Wake Forest (Calloway)

Current cumulative weighted GPA = 4.02

Ranked 40 out of about 530 (7.5%)

Three MG classes taken (we are only allowed one per year)

Several honors classes, AP Physics B (score pending this May, anticipating a 4)

Taking Calculus as a senior next year (maybe AP BC)

Taking SAT Reasoning on 3/14, estimated scores = 680 CR, 760 Math, 720 Writing

Subject Tests not taken yet, but I'm confident I can score at least 750 on Math Level I and II, and a minimum of 700 on Physics

ACT (with Writing) will be taken on April 4th, expecting no less than 31-32

Extreme lack of extracurriculars (mostly due to a part-time job at my local Acme and a lengthy commute to school)

However, I was on the baseball team as a sophomore and actively involved in our Peer Mentoring program (mainly tutoring freshman in Algebra)

I play basketball for a church league outside of school

Member of the NSHSS

Averaging about 50 hours of community service per school year, and will probably have a total of more than 200 upon graduation

Going to attend a several-week-long business program at a college this summer

Recommendations will not be a problem

Writing skills are very good, maybe good enough to write an essay (or essays) that can make up for my lack of involvement in HS

Is my lack of activities really going to damper my chances THAT much?

Please remember that my test scores are not official, but I can assure you that they will not be lower than what I have listed.

If possible, rate each school from 1 to 10 (10 meaning I am definitely in, and 1 meaning I have no chance)

I can chance you for UNC, WAKE- but i need more info.

Gender, Race, EXACTLY HOW MANY HONORS CLASSES and AP CLASSES separate please… (list them)

Ok, I’ll do a new list:

Race: caucasion
Gender: male
Residence: PA
High School (competetive, magnet, top public in the city)

Current cumulative weighted GPA = 4.02

Ranked 40 out of about 530 (7.5%)

Honors: Algebra 1, Geometry, English 2, PreCalculus

AP: Physics B (score pending this May, anticipating a 4), Calculus AB (next year), Statistics (next year)

Taking SAT Reasoning on March 14th, estimated scores = 680 CR, 760 Math, 720 Writing

Subject Tests not taken yet, but scores will resemble: 760 Math I, 750 Math II, 700 Physics

ACT (with Writing) will be taken on April 4th, expecting no less than 31-32

Extreme lack of extracurriculars (mostly due to a part-time job at my local Acme and a lengthy commute to school)

My test scores are unofficial, but will not be lower than what I have listed.

University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (Flagler) -
University of Virginia (McIntosh) -
Villanova University (VSB) -
Wake Forest (Calloway) -

Thanks in advanced…

how many APs does your school offer? without this here is your chances

Wake- High Match-Mid Match- I would recommend a interview next year
UNC - Low Reach- Mid Reach - course rigor, class rank , ec’s > All of these hurt you

My school offers a lot of AP’s, which, I know, also doesn’t look very good. Is UNC really harder to get into than Wake? I’m glad you responded, because I have always thought it was the other way around.

UNC is super hard to get into out of state, they can have only 18% out of state in the school at any given time, you should look in the UNC boards it is brutal for admission. Wake is easier by a lot i think, one because it is private and they don’t care whether you are in-state or out-state, plus they have a sat/act optional policy now- trust me this policy is working against them as i speak- i have seen people who get accepted but aren’t nearly prepared for the work they are going to offer.

With the new info you gave me, i wouldn’t keep too much hope on UNC, but Wake should stay where it is.

Ok, thank you. I’m just trying to get an idea of where I might get in, I have not really finalized a list yet. But your help is greatly appreciated.
