Would you say it is more difficult to get in to Georgia Tech in state or Chapel Hill out of State?
Both are very competitive and well-respected schools.
GT is harder engineering-wise.
UNC-CH is harder business-wise.
Also depends on your residence. If you live in NC, it’ll be easier to get into UNC than it will Tech.
They’re pretty different schools. UNC has the quintessential college town vibe–really great bars, restaurants, shops immediately adjacent to campus. It is pretty spectacular across the board. It is not an engineering school though. Georgia Tech is a terrific engineering school. It is much more urban–a traditional campus atmosphere immediately next to downtown Atlanta. Great to look at both and maybe think about schools that are similar to the one you like best. Both are very competitive. UNC is especially difficult for OOSs because OOS enrollment is capped at 18%. But odds would vary by your specific case. Good luck finding a great fit for yourself. There are lots of great schools out there.

For example, my D (interested in the sciences) considered both but applied and was accepted elsewhere. Her record would have made her a competitive applicant at both (OOS at both), but I think she would have had a better shot at GT because she’s female (GT gets many more male applicants) and fewer students from our area apply to GT. Of course, I don’t know what would have happened.
