I want to start off by saying don’t pay attention to my username: I created this account a while ago.
I’ve narrowed my list down to these three colleges and I’m trying to decide which one to attend. I plan on studying business/finance.I’m in state for UNC and have received in state tuition for USC. I’m wondering if the slightly business school at umich is worth the oos price tag. What do you guys think
*slightly better business school
Go to UMich. The opportunities there will let you find a job anywhere. SC’s program may be more regionally restrictive. UNC isn’t bad, but I’d take UMich unless $$ is a real problem.
What kind of business are you wanting to specialize in USC Columbia has #1 international business program. USC Honors is also a highly ranked honors program .
@MYOS1634 Care to weigh in?
If I go to USC I will do international business
I do not recommend choosing USC. I would go for UNC, unless your parents can easily afford Michigan, in which case, I would go for fit.
I’m an OOS business student at Michigan, so I can vouch firsthand that their national reputation and career opportunities are stellar. With that being said, Chapel Hill has a fine business program itself, so unless you get some form of merit scholarship from Mich (unlikely), go with UNC to save money. Ultimately however, I feel as though you’re leaving out too much information for us to help you for instance:
Do you plan to study grad school?
How certain are you that you want to do business/ your specific branch of business?
Where do you plan to work after you graduate?
Those are just the purely academic and career oriented questions you’d have to answer for us to help.
I do plan on going to grad school. I am certain I want to do business finance. I’m not sure where I will work after graduation but im open to anything
Honestly, in terms of undergrad business vs MBA, I’d def choose MBA, especially these days. Otherwise, UNC and Michigan are on par with each other, so pick where you want to go. Personally, I would want to go out of state if I were you (if you can afford it of course). Go where you can succeed and visit both
Alright, I can’t speak for UNC, but Michigan has one of the top finance concentrations in the nation. In my (albeit biased) opinion, UNC can’t compare nationally to UMich as a brand name (although East Coast, they are similar). USC isn’t in the same neighborhood as either of them business program wise.
Ultimately though, if you plan to pursue an MBA, take the money and go to USC. Very few MBA applicants are undergraduate business students. The point of getting an undergrad business education is so that you may not have to pursue a graduate business degree. In fact, Michigan’s undergrad business program holds most of its staying power from the fact that it’s actually a streamlined version containing roughly 80% of the 2 year MBA curriculum in its 3 year program.
Todd87, no reliable ranking has UNC ranked ahead of Michigan in Business. Everything from resources, faculty and facilities to placement, reputation rating and starting salaries points to Ross having the edge. But it does not justify paying that much more over Kenan Flagler, which is excellent in its own right…unless one’s parents have the means to afford the difference with remarkable ease.
