I am an international student from China. I got admitted to both UNC-CH and USC, and I am having a difficult time making decision. I am interested in studying business, and both USC and UNC have great undergraduate business program. I am not familiar with NC or CA, and here are some questions:

Are UNC-CH and USC equally prestigious in America? I know that both are great schools, but in China, USC is relatively famous while UNC-CH is largely unheard-of, so I am wondering whether these two schools are equally respected in America.

Which one has better undergraduate business program? Which one do you recommend?

Since UNC is a state university, do out-of-state students fit in well in Carolina? This is a concern because I live in China and I have been to America for only one time, and I would like to find a place that would possibly give me a feeling of "home".

I heard that some UNC students go to Charlotte for job hunting. Are UNC-CH students competitive compared to students from other top-notch schools on East Coast such as Duke and UVA when looking for job? I also heard that it is relatively easy for USC students to get job placements in CA, is that true?

if you dont plan on fully intergrating with american social life, usc is perfect. there will be tons of other chinese whom you can befriend and talk chinese with. however, the greek scene will largely be difficult to break into, save for asian beta and some houses that take all.

usc is king in socal. on the east coast UNC ch has a better reputation by far…USC can literally be you going to a chinatown, in the sense that there are so many asian students who dont even intend to intergrate into american social life…

Kenan-Flagler is consistently higher ranked than Marshall for undergraduate business. I would say the KF is generally more respected with US businesses. UNC does not have a large undergraduate int’l student population. However at UNC, the student population is extremely friendly and welcoming, so most people find it very easy to quickly feel at home.

There is no question that both schools have established relationships with local businesses, so, I’m sure USC holds an edge for business placement in CA. KF does have quite a good alumni network that can help with job placement up and down the east coast. Roughly 85% of the undergraduate population is students from NC, so, yes a lot of students who want to stay local seek employment in Charlotte (particularly in banking and finance). A lot also seek employment in the Research Triangle Park, which is very close to UNC and has large companies like IBM, Cisco, NetApp, Syngenta, GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer, RTI, Biogen Idec, BD Technologies, etc.

KF does an exceptional job in helping it’s students get business internships. 94.5% percent of seniors report having at least one business-related internship (2nd highest ranking in the US for undergrad business school internships. USC is not even ranked). Undergrads at Kenan-Flagler benefit from having access to the B-schools career office, in addition to the services offered by the universitys career office. Business students seeking internships have the option to take part in career treks, where they will visit companies in such cities as Atlanta, New York, and Washington, D.C. Additionally, the school offers executive coaching to undergrads to prepare for the internship hunt. With the help of a group of semiretired executives, students experience such activities as mock interviews, career coaching, and life coaching.
