Business major, cost will probably come out to be very similar
Well, we’re going to need some additional information. Both of them have excellent undergraduate business programs and they are ranked very close to each other, so that’s not a real distinguishing factor.
Would you rather go to school in Chapel Hill or Austin? Have you visited both of them? Do you have a preference for ending up in either regional area post-graduation?
I got assured admit to KF so I’ve been wondering if that would give me a little edge when it comes to leadership/other opportunities (but i don’t think it’d be a critical edge like bhp at Mccombs if that makes sense)
Austin sounds amazing bc it’s the live music capital of the world and I hear there’s si much to do all the time. I know unc has Franklin street and a pretty good music scene but not sure if it’s comparable to austin’s scene if we’re contrasting them. However I live in texas so I think experiencing a new part of the U.S. sounds cool too… But I would be 1000+ miles away from home. I’m cool with being fairly close to home or fairly far, I just can’t figure out which one has the edge
I have visited both of them, although I’ve never gotten a real “official” campus tour of ut even though I lived there for two weeks so that’s an option before May first
A regional preference… Well this ties into what I mentioned about it being cool and being open to experiencing a new part of the states but from what I’ve been hearing I know that texas’s economy is booming right now…
@Jaysun18, I have answered on one of your other threads. You will be in a great place at either business school.
I am not familiar with the Carolina Covenant, but it appears that will make the costs comparable for you. If that ends up being the case, then you have a really great win- win decision to make.
Note that in my house, we have a grad from KF and one from McCombs. Both landed in Management Consulting in different home offices - both resulted from on campus interviews. Nonetheless, this was a long time ago.
If I had the opportunity to send one of my kids to UNC for what it costs us to send them to UT as a instate resident, I would do it in a heartbeat!
You have an opportunity to experience another area of the country, the travel and logistics involved (which are often a big part of mgmt consulting).
UNC is not and does not feel as big as UT. You will feel like you have more personalized attention.
Changing and to some extent adding majors at UT can be a nightmare. For instance on one of your threads, a UNC student said he majored in Biology and Music and minored in Business. That combination specifically and inter-school, inter-disciplinary study is just not encouraged at UT.
As you mentioned as well, if you were in BHP or Plan II at UT, I might vote UT. And I would not encourage you to go to UT and plan to get into BHP sophomore year - there is an application process, but still slim chances. If you did that and did not get in, you would be second guessing this initial decision.
I vote UNC KF with a verification of your strong and continuing financial package. Go Heels!
Congratulations on your acceptances and a great opportunity whatever you decide.
If UNC is the same cost as UT, I’d go with UT for all the reasons outlined above, most of all the travelling/discovering another part of the country, and also because you got direct admit to Kenan Flagler, which is not easy. That plus the Carolina Covenant deal means that they REALLY want you, which should also help things
As a current UNC Kenan-Flagler student, the opportunities are phenomenal. All of my friends in KF (including myself) have good jobs lined up for post-graduation. The alumni network at UNC is strong, and the professors are top-notch as well. PM if you have any additional questions.
The best of the best come to UNC to recruit (i.e. Goldman, BCG, Bain, JP Morgan) etc.
Also, the campus is beautiful; the students are intelligent, yet down-to-earth; and Chapel Hill is the quintessential college town.
I think it would be a mistake to pass up KF. And you’re an assured admit, which is a huge deal.
OOOPS, just realized I meant " if costs are equal, I’d go with UNC… because Kenan Flagler " (“choose UT for Kenana Flagler” would be really weird). I apologize.
I agree that being a direct admit is a big deal not to be passed up.
