UNC vs UVA vs Emory

I'm a bio major(pre med), but cant decide which one is best for pre med

uva-gave me full tution. i dont really like the whole preppy sterotype i always hear about. but would i be crazy to pass that up?
unc-pretty good aid package, but not full tution, but i like its location in the research triangle and that its close to duke(which i hear you can take a class at).
emory- only $18,000 which wont help alot for the pricey tution.

oh and i recieved deadline extensions but need to send in decsion really soon!
advice please!

You’d be crazy to pass up on UVA. There’s a reason they call it a “stereotype”.

I would go to UVA in a heartbeat.

UVa! UVa! UVa!

UVA definitely

I found UVA to be very preppy too when I visited, the whole secret society thing (7’s, IMP), people walking around in blazers, people go to football games in ties and jackets bothered me since I’m not a “preppy” person.

if the OP is not comfortable at UVA I think UNC-Chapel Hill is just as good a choice or even better than UVA. Academics are very rigorous, there are many college students in the area, UNC sports are huge so there’s a lot of school spirit and there are strong science programs. I would put in a vote for UNC-Chapel Hill

UVA tuition free? This is an easy decision.

If you can handle the attitude, UVirginia for free is a great deal. Agree with Pierre, that UNC is like UVa with less attitude and better sports teams. Emory is a great school, but go for the location in Atlanta, better facilities, posher “feel”. Just a question of whether that is worth the $. Nice to have options.

fn18, I know you didn’t get paid full tuition but how much will you have to pay for UNC-Chapel Hill because if it isn’t a lot, I would go with UNC-CH

pierre0913 it isnt that much more its like $8,000.

alright, then definitely go to UNC-Chapel Hill

I personally would go to UVA over UNC-CH, but since you are looking to be a Biology (Pre-Med) major, UNC-CH is the only choice.

^^^^Is that because you feel that UVA is weak in the natural sciences B Man 22?

two of the strongest programs at UVA are actually in premedical study and biomedical engineering

Strongly seconded. $8K is certainly not an unreasonable amount.

I assume UVA would still expect you to pay as well, since they only gave you tuition and not room, board, books, or other expenses ($9370).

Because it’s based on truth?

"^^^^Is that because you feel that UVA is weak in the natural sciences B Man 22? "

I wouldn’t say UVA is “weak” at the natural sciences; they are one of the best public unis in the nation, so it would be ignorant to say they were weak in any particular field. But from what I have read and heard, UNC-CH has stronger programs in Biology and Chemistry. The OP said that he was looking to be a Bio/Pre-Med major. Since UNC-CH is a relatively inexpensive Pub + he has aid, I would go to UNC over UVA in his situation.
