I have been accepted to both and am having trouble deciding between the two. I plan on majoring in computer science and have heard good things about Charlotte, but not much about Wilmington. Any advice is welcome, thank you.

I have been to both campuses and I think Wilmington is a much more friendly and attractive campus. UNCW also is higher on the totem pole when it comes to prestige in the UNC system. Most will tell you that it goes UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State and UNCW…with App State and UNC Asheville right behind it and ECU, WCU, WSSU, UNCP, UNCC and UNCG finishing up the list. Have you toured both campuses? I didn’t see the computer science department at UNCC but I did see it at UNCW and it looked very new and modern. Here is some info on their curriculum [Prospective Student FAQ: Computer Science: UNCW](<a href=“Computer Science Department | UNCW”>Computer Science Department | UNCW)
My daughter didn’t even want to apply to Charlotte because she didn’t like the campus and she also thought that UNCW was a better school. She also got into UNCW and she is just waiting to hear back by Jan 30th for NC State. Good Luck with your decision! It really depends if you want the rural campus of UNCC or the Coastal Small Town feel of UNCW. :)

Hi! I think I might be able to help you seeing as I have applied, been accepted, and visited both campuses. My first choice overall is Chapel Hill, but I knew that I needed to have a clear choice between UNCC and UNCW in case that fell through. Before I visited the campuses, I thought that it was going to be a hard choice between the two, but after the tours, UNCW was the clear choice. Without a doubt, UNCW has more academic prestige and more opportunities. However, this is not what deterred me from UNC Charlotte… the moment I stepped on campus there, it felt like it wasn’t for me. If this makes any sense, it just didn’t feel as “academic” as I wanted, or like a traditional college campus. Personally, my choice is Wilmington because it’s beautiful, academically prestigious in our UNC system, and has the feel I want.

Hope this helped! Good luck! :)

Thank you both so much for your replies. I understand exactly what you were saying about the feel of the colleges. Wilmington felt like a much better fit for me, but I still wanted to get other opinions on the two schools. Thank you once again, and best of luck to ncmom2014’s daughter with nc state!
