Hi all, I get admitted into UNCCH and WUSTL. But I don't know which one to attend. UNCCH is not as expensive as WUSTL but less prestigious... I love the architectural style of UNCCH but worry about how to fit in a school where there are so many IS students. Plus, although I didn't apply for financial aid at the very beginning of application, I do want to get scholarship later. Will UNCCH give scholarship to international students? Tons of thanks for your help!

UNC is as prestigious as WUSTL. I have never seen a single reputation source suggest that WUSTL is more prestigious than UNC. They are roughly equally prestigious. In all things Medical/Biological, WUSTL is indeed more prestigious and hard to match, let alone beat. In all other ways, UNC = WUSTL.

If you prefer UNC, go for it…I know I would.

“They are roughly equally prestigious.”

This year, even their basketball teams were roughly equal.

^lollll :]

WUSTL doesn’t have a big edge in prestige factor, however it dominates in academic rigor. UNC is a breeze for many students.

IMO, WU wins in prestige but I would go with UNC personally if its cheaper for you.

I would go with UNC. They’re equally prestigious.

Washington University in St. Louis for prestige, top academic programs, and slightly more intense caliber of the student body. Go to UNC if money is an issue for you. WashU as a private school will be very expensive. Both are very good schools but it looks like money could be a deciding factor for you.

UNC has a better athletic tradition, which was its big sell for me over other schools when I applied. Like others said, both are prestigious, and you really can’t go wrong.

USNWR graduate ranking for WUSTL:

business(#22); engineering(#46); law(#19); medicine(#3)
math(#40); computer science(#39); biological science(#7);
chemistry(#43); physics(#48)
econ(#28); political sci(#13); psychology(#13); sociology(NR)
english(#29); history(#28); education(#36)

^^ I think the OP is interested in UNDERGRADUATE GoBlue81, not graduate programs at the moment. Last time I checked, university undergraduate programs don’t have a medical program. For example, medical school is a graduate program.
I think Washington University in St. Louis is ranked #12 in the nation for its undergraduate program. UNC ranks below. But both are very excellent schools.

I doubt if either school is considered prestigious with employers in your country.

If you don’t get any scholarship coming in, I doubt if you will get much money afterwards.

Then how do you know WUSTL has “top academic programs”? What ranking do you based it on?

WUSTL’s high overall ranking is more attributed to its selectivity and student quality. It’s peer assessment score is 4.1, same as UNC.

Btw, Olin is ranked #16, compared to UNC’s Kenan-Flagler at #6.

Chill guys. Both WashU and UNC are great institutions. OP, l have PMed you back.
GoBlue, WashU is top 10 in 19 disciplines.

If money is a pressing issue for the OP, these rankings won’t matter as much. Again, OP, I’ve replied to your PM and hopefully have answered your questions.

You do realize that these are graduate program ranking, right? And at least 11 of the 19 disciplines are biological/biomedical related.

^^Thank you. I was just about to comment before I read your post.

"…according to Academic Analytics’ Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index (FSP Index), a new quantitative method for ranking doctoral programs at research universities. "

This is the rating system WUSTL likes to quote? Notice the word, “new.” Look it’s a very fine school, but no one is going to convince me that WUSTL is #3 in the country at the graduate or undergraduate level in business administration. (Whatever that means exactly!)

ahhhh yeah, thx all for your replies! They really give me a good feel about UNC. After more browse I find I like UNC better. It’s indeed a breeze to me! So yes, I would probably go for UNC. And sorry about the “prestigious” thing. I apologize because as an int’l I know little about the real situation in US and just listened to what US News suggested.
