Hi, I am very interested in Wesleyan. I feel as if I would fit into the social environment perfectly. It sounds like a very good academic school. However, I am going to school for music. I would like to do 50% music and 50% studio arts and liberal arts if possible.

I am also considering places like Oberlin, Vanderbilt, UofMich, and maybe Cal Arts so my expectation of music is pretty high. My brother is a RISD student so my expectations in the art dept are also pretty high :d

WESLEYAN:
Pros- Social atmosphere, location, great LA college, wide variety of world music styles and ensembles
Cons- uncertain about musical quality of faculty and students, don't know studio art quality, don't know about electronic music facilities

haha, wow! thanks for the response! I will look this through.

I am not familiar with the studio art program at Wesleyan. We heard the orchestra rehearse when we visited, it was small but excellent. You are correct, there is an emphasis on world music there.

Since you like Wesleyan, you should consider adding Vassar and Bard to your list. Both are strong in music and art. We heard the Bard orchestra perform two years ago and it has developed into a good sized group.

We went to the Vassar orchestra concert last Saturday and it was amazing. In the course of four weeks, they were able to put together Brahm’s 2nd Symphony into an fantastic performance. Skinner concert hall was almost totally filled with students, friends, parents, faculty and community people. Everyone was cheering. There is a strong supportive atmosphere for all of the arts at Vassar. Additionally, it is easier to double major at Vassar than at other schools because they only have two or three distribution requirements.

I hope you can visit your top choices because although they appear similar, the vibes are different at each.

Wesleyan also has minimal distribution recommendations (not even requirements), so double majoring is easily done at Wes.
