UNC's transfer admissions is lower than you think

I just had a chat with someone in admissions today and they told me that the admission rate for transfers is around 30%. This is at least 10 percent lower than I have read everywhere and I asked him if he was sure and he said he was.

Also, in state and out of state applicants are treated equally for transfers which I think is bull considering I'm a resident but whatever...

I'm really disappointed to find that my chances are lower than I though.

When you go for the transfer days though, they talk it up to be a fairly simple process, certainly not competitive

Yeah, I think that they are full of **** one of the guys also said that the prestige of your school doesn't matter and that you are judged on an individual basis; although this might be true in some respects, kids from selective private schools have a much better chance at admission than someone from a UNC system tier 3 school.

It was funny because I also asked what a competitive GPA would be for transfers and they said that students get accepted anywhere from a 3.0 up. When I called him out on dodging the question all he said was that a 3.0 is neither a cut off nor a guarantee for admission. I'm sorry but a 3.0 is not competitive anywhere.

3.0 may not be a competitive GPA coming from WCU...

Thank you for pointing out the obvious mj, I'm speaking in generalities here. Of course a person majoring in engineering at MIT with a 3.0 is going to be competitive compared to someone majoring in English at a TTT.

Fortunately my GPA is well above a 3.0 but thanks for the advice.

"I'm sorry but a 3.0 is not competitive anywhere".....

Although GPA is very important for transfer applicants, there is also a strong emphasis on the rigor of courses taken which will obviously affect GPA.

I'm a current UNC student and I know a kid who transfered in here with around a 3.0 from ECU (eastern carolina)

If you could would you elaborate? He had to have something going for him to get in with that kind of GPA

This is a good article to read, there are a lot of interesting stats at the bottom

Wow, thanks for that it answered a bunch of questions I had. I wonder why they don't make this information more available...
