UNCSA Interview

Hi! I’m a high school student who wants to study film at UNCSA, and my interview is scheduled for November 18. Can anyone tell me what their interview was like, and how soon after the interview they received their decision? I also live in Germany, so I’ll be doing the interview over Skype- if anyone has any experience with that as well I would love to her about it!

Thank you!

I was curious how your interview went. My son will be interviewing Jan 2018 for film as well.

I think my interview went well- I couldn’t really tell if my interviewers liked me because we had to do mine over the phone, but for the most part I think it went smoothly. They first asked me to pick a prompt from a list of topics and write a story about it for 15 minutes, and then asked me to read it aloud to them. After that they asked the basic questions: what my favourite movie was, my favourite director, books I had read recently. They didn’t really say much about my portfolio, but I think the interview is overall a chance for the staff to get to know you and your intentions better. They mostly asked me about living in Germany and the cultural differences between Germany and America.

If I could give any advice about the interview I would say to come with a good amount of questions- I asked my interviewers about the German language courses at UNCSA and they gave me detailed and useful answers. They didn’t ask me about the types of films I wanted to make, but when I offered to tell them they were eager to hear. In case they ask your son that question, I would make sure that he knows what types of films he wants to make, what his main creative influences are, and why he wants to go to UNCSA to accomplish his goals.

Hope this helps!
