So far I have been accepted at both schools, and am now beginning to think of my final decision. As far as the locations go, I find myself drawn to both the beach and the mountains so ultimately I see myself being happy at both. I want to study either Environmental Science or Evolutionary/ Environmental Biology or Ecology. After researching these programs at both schools I’ve seen that UNCW typically ranks higher than App in these fields. However, I would love to hear if anyone had any personal experience studying these things at either schools, and what they enjoyed or didn’t enjoy. Also, if anyone has any more broad or student life focused experiences at either of these schools that may help influence my overall decision please share!
Hi there! I’m a marine biology major at UNCW about to graduate. I conducted field research for my honors thesis on fisheries interactions between Diamondback Terrapins and crab pots around Masonboro Island and I love how much UNCW encourages and supports research! I even received a support grant to travel to a conference to present. Many people here also double major in Biology/Marine Biology and Environmental Studies because a lot of the requirements overlap if that influences your decision at all. Let me know if you have any questions- I’d love to help!
