UND Distance Engineering Program

Has anybody heard anything about this program?

<a href="http://www.conted.und.edu/ddp/dedp/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.conted.und.edu/ddp/dedp/index.html</a></p>

It's an attractive option for me (cause I'm old and have a job and can't make day classes at any of my local schools), but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I'm kind of iffy about online degrees, but it seems like a solid program. Opinions would be appreciated

I posted a similar question on the Online Degrees board, and it was suggested that I post it over here also.

The UND distance engineering programs are very unusual, because they hold full accreditation from ABET, which is the "gold standard" for engineering BS degrees. They should be legally recognized as qualifying professional degrees by any state engineering board in the US. Some engineering employers might initially be skeptical of a distance engineering degree, but once they learn that it is ABET-accredited, they'll probably accept it as valid too.

I am not sure if any other schools currently offer equivalent ABET-accredited distance engineering programs. I believe the SUNY system plans to launch one for EE.

There is a catch: some residency is required, because ABET has strict requirements for supervised hands-on lab work. So you have to travel to the UND campus during the summer for short, but intense, lab sessions, lasting 1-2 weeks each. This could be a deal-killer for some people.

I don't have any personal experience with the program, but I know that advocates of distance learning often cite it as one of the best distance degree options currently available.
