this is a stupid question. but is it better to select undecided than to actually choose a major? for example, if i choose int'l studies as first choice for Hopkins, and since it's a very distinguished program at the school, will it be disadvantageous? also, on the general common apps (not the supplement section), if i select undecided, then whatever i say on the supplment section SHOULD match directly right? or it might come out fishy

wondering the same thing-esp as S is undecided but has some interest in some areas...

I have these same questions...
From what I know (please take this with a grain of salt...), colleges have certain quotas for each major, so if you select a very rare major, you may be more likely to get accepted into it, but you also have to show a demonstrated interest in that area.
Does this make any sense? It's really just an educated guess on my part.

yea i think that's true. but i the majors i want @ my top schools are the most distinguished (ie. econ @ penn)...

but on the supplement section, does it REALLY matter what i choose? it's not official as to what i wanna major in (b/c that's in the common apps)...it's just to tell them, give 'em a general idea what their prospective students are 'most likely' to pursue if enrolled. if i leave that part blank in the supplement, will it look BAD? on the apps, i'm selecting undecided

the majors on the common apps are basic, becuase i wanted biochemistry and they didn't have it so i just put chemistry as my first choice and biology as my second choice.

but it still would play a small, if not a big role on admission decisions...esp if it's like int'l studies at JHU, econ @ penn, etc...

again, back to the second part of my first post, if they ask me what my 'interests' and 'likely pursuits' are on the SUPPLEMENT, should i choose undecided as well??? wouldn't that look stupid? b/c it seems like u have absolutely no ambition whatsoever....

My math scores aren't the best and I have an interest in science and in english so I was told to put Undecided if declaring a major was required (instead of putting down Biology for example). But if they ask me my interests, I'll put down both something in English and Science.
