hi all,
i am a high school junior and i take many business classes and am at the top of my class. the past two years, i have realized that i am really interested in finance as a college major. i am a female and i read somewhere that 90% of the field is male. does this discriminate me?

investment banking is what i am interested in doing, but i was wondering where most of the jobs are for that field. nyc? thanks!

You should find out what investment banking is first.

Most of the top jobs are in NYC but there are Investment Banking opportunities throughout the US and oversees. Certain cities will have more than others (for instance, most of the investment banks in Texas are in Houston).

You will not be discriminated because you are a female. If anything, you will be at an advantage as many firms are trying to diversify. The three big financial centers are often considered to be New York, London, and Hong Kong. In the United States, satellite offices such as San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston are also big players in certain sectors.

thank you. i do know what investment banking is dawgie.

Not to offend, but I'd say there is a large probability that you don't. But who knows, maybe you're part of the small minority of high school kids (and college kids for that matter)

high school junior knows about ibanking?
either lies or shes the next wall street superstar

i take business courses and i have a basic understanding what ibanking is but obviously i'm not a wall street superstar. i said it was a possible interest. i came to the board to learn more about it but that is beyond the point. thanks.

its a possible interest because of the $$$ :D

true, but that is not all. i am still exploring business options, but i am a worker who operates fine with basically no sleep and i am an early person and night owl. i am friendly, outgoing, and energetic. i actually think i will enjoy the field and i don't mind working all the time due to the lifestyle i have in mind. but any other imput is appreciated, kmzizzle. =)

what are other sensible finance careers you have in mind, kmzizzle?

"high school junior knows about ibanking?
either lies or shes the next wall street superstar"

yeah, because spending 15 minutes on wikipedia is really difficult...
