I am a senior in high school and I applied to the University of Delaware hoping for the best. I found out that I was waitlisted in January and I just recently got an email informing me on my acceptance in spring 2018. In order to be admitted to udel in the spring, you have to go to the American University in DC. It’s a relatively new program that udel made and its called Delaware in DC. If anyone is familiar with this program, I am sure you are aware that it is highly expensive. Long story short, I cannot attend due to financial reasons. American U doesn’t accept financial aid, scholarships, grants, ect. I decided to stay on the waitlist, and hopefully I will hear back around May 1st. However, I don’t know if it would be more beneficial for me to put my major (interest area) as undecided, or health sciences (one of udel’s most competitive majors). University of Delaware has been my top choice school for a while now, and I want to try and do whatever I can to get my foot in the door. What should I say my major is?
I would not keep it undeclared nor would I put down one of the most competitive majors. I would chose something close to health sciences assuming one can change majors at some point without any issues. It does not make sense to put up more barriers to your entry. Give yourself the best possibility of getting in. Have you spoken to someone regarding the variation in cost? Perhaps they can give you more FA?
Yes I have called the admissions office regarding the expense of AU and they too believe that the cost for one semester only is over the top. It’s also not udel’s place to give out financial aid, it would have to be AU to offer it since it’s their program, which they do not unfortunately. I’m planning on putting a deposit in my 2nd choice school, incase udel doesn’t work out. As far as my major goes, would physical and applied sciences be the best bet for helping my chances of getting in?
