I heard that being undeclared as your major in the UC system is not good because you do not have priority for classes. Is that true? Are there disadvantages to being undeclared?

Yes there is!! If you know what major you want to pursue try to change into it as soon as possible. Some classes are restricted to particular schools/majors and by the time the restrictions are dropped they might end up being full.

Yup, I see it more as a negative than a positive. I was accepted as an undeclared student rather as my reported Electrical Engineer major. My EAOP adviser told me that now I have to work harder and receive a really good GPA in UCI in order to transfer into the engineering school.

Like hyukmin said, itt’s not that you have a later enrollment date, it’s more that certain classes that are school requirements or pre-reqs for majors are restricted to those majors/schools. So I would suggest you declare your Major, if not school of interested asap, especially if it’s something that doesn’t require much to get into. You can always change it in the future too.

When’s the earliest you can change it again? I heard it was at orientation.

Bump, I want to know the answer to everary’s question also because I applied as undeclared but am thinking about doing the computer game science major.

I think it’s pretty easy to change your major at SPOP unless you want to change into Engineering or Business Administration.
