So I'm trying to add a couple school's to my college list to make it less "top-heavy" (full of reaches). I came across three great schools with top undergrad business programs, that are still reaches but certainly more in my range than HYPS. I only want to apply to one of the three, since I already have upwards of 12 schools on my list....
So the schools are:
1) UVA-Mcintire 2)Notre Dame-Mendoza 3)Emory-Goizueta
My question is, based on my stats, what school do I have the best shot at getting a merit scholarship from? Also if you don't feel that I'm qualified for a merit scholarship, which school do I have the best chances at?
stats: GPA: 94-95 uw (school doesn't rank but I should at least be in top 10%)
SAT I: cr.m.w: 710.770.800 SAT IIs: math II/ bio/us: 760/730/730 (taking ACT this month)
APs: Bio, Lang, US, Euro-5s Macroecon, Microecon-4s
ECs: DECA Regional President, Varsity Tennis Captain, Model UN Officer/Chair, Mock Trial Captain, Interned at U.S. Senator's Office, Youth Court Panelist
Awards: projected NMF (229), DECA International Finalist and 3x State Winner, Model UN Outstanding Delegate, Williams College Book Award, National Spanish Exam Silver Medalist, District Business Award, Scholar Athlete Award

side notes: I'm Indian and I'm a NY resident
-I also looked into the Jefferson Scholars program at UVA, and my school isn't a "nominating school" so I can't be in contention for that scholarship, as far as I know

Indiana Kelley School of Business is ranked tenth overall by US News. You qualify for an automatic $9,000 annually with your stats. The honors college would also probably give your $1,000 to $4,000 per year. NMF would get you $1,000 per year. Don’t know about the schools you listed.

I don’t know about UVA or Emory, but it is unlikely that you would get a merit scholarship from ND – simply because ND’s financial aid is almost entirely need-based.

If you truly want a big merit scholarship, you should look at lower-ranked schools where your qualifications would clearly put you in the top 5 - 10 % of applicants.

okay thanks for all the responses so far…
I looked at the Hezburgh Yuzko scholarship @ Notre Dame and the Goizueta Scholars at Emory, and it looks like they both require nominations from a school counselor of some sort…

Can any school nominate students…or can only “nominating schools” do this (like the Jefferson scholars program at UVA)???

Are you applying to any financial safety schools? Those are schools that you KNOW that you can afford to go to because of assured merit, assured grants (like Pell), small fed loans, and/or family money.

If you need financial aid and/or merit to afford college, then applying to schools that “might” give you $$$ is NOT applying to financial safety schools because you aren’t certain that you’d get enough money to afford the school.

**For instance, if you need a lot of $$$, **then applying to Indiana wouldn’t work because the cost is about $38k and you’d only get $9k in merit and very little in free aid (if you’re low income). You’d be left with a huge gap of unmet need.

Since you’re a likely NMF, you should apply to a couple of schools that have quick and easy applications that will also give you huge scholarships for your NMF status. For example, Alabama has a very good B-school and would give you free tuition, free honors housing, and other goodies for being NMF. [The Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration](<a href=“Home - The Culverhouse College of Business”>http://cba.ua.edu/) Bama has over 500 NMFs on campus.

I don’t NEED financial aid, since my parent’s are able to pay for any undegrad I do. I was just trying to see if my stats made me a candidate for some merit aid…since that would always be nice:)

I don’t feel like I need to include financial safeties since my family is fortunate enough to be able to pay any tuition…but I’d like to see if there are any schools that would give me any form of merit scholarship (I’m not expecting a huge scholarship obviously since the schools in question are very competitive).

This year, any high school may nominate a candidate to apply to The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program. Some confusion may have come from a different nomination process used last year.

Since you don’t need merit and you want a top business school, why not apply to Kelley?
