Under 70 AI and Admitted?

As far as I can track, everyone that has posted admission here has had an Admissions Index of 70 or better thus far. As we all know, 70 or better at UW pretty much gets you an auto admin, provided you meet all other reqs. So, my question is has anyone with an AI lower than 70 been admitted yet? If so, please post here with your AI.

You can look up your AI here: http://www.hecb.wa.gov/Research/issues/admissions/AITables-05.pdf

graph is 2-3 years old...has gotten tougher

I have often wondered what purpose it serves for the UW to keep publishing this graph when it does not reflect classes of the past two years. It would be an easy thing to simply publish a new graph each year. Why do you think they keep putting out the old graph?

By the way; two people have reported on this board being admitted with AIs under 70; one with a 68 the other with a 67. If I remember correctly they both were heavily involved in music in some way. My take; the UW is on the look out for people who can do certain things for the University; sort of like Athletes. They will get quick consideration.

Yeah I've seen that graph, but it's no longer current. I fit in the the nice large and highly admitted category 4, but im sure it has gotten more competetive.

Actually, auto admit has been pretty much the same for the past 2-3 years. I have always heard since my freshman year in high school that a 3.7, 1200 will do it for you. And now, it's just up 20 points on the SAT. Even though they changed the AI tables, all they did was move the auto admit AI down to 70- before it was in the high 80s. But anyways that's for a different thread.

A friend of my friend got in with below 70 AI very early I think he was in the mid 60s. I don't know, but I think it helped that he was an URM (hispanic)

well i know with an AI of 54 or 55 Im not gonna be admitted automatically...my question is, can I get admitted at all? I mean I know the average applicant has a 3.7/1200, but that is the AVERAGE. that means that there ARE some lower, and yes, some higher. Surely the UW isnt so closed minded that they would never admit anyone with an AI in the mid to upper 50s/60s? Hopefully they are sensible enough to make exceptions,

You have an opportunity. I hope you get in. I don't doubt you deserve it. However, I know friends with kids from recent years; in-state with 3.4s+ and SAT near 1200 who did not get in. Of course once you are in CR any thing can happen. So I would say you had as good a chance as any.

thanks for the encouragement mmboys :) I really really hope that I do, and that all of us here do. And from what you've said about your daughter, I think she has a really great shot, and I have a feeling she'll get in. Hopefully the people in CR will be merciful, and really WILL pay attention to the other stuff...i.e. read the essays carefully, scrutinize EC's, personal circumstances, etc. I also happen to know a couple of admissions counselors at UW (2 or 3 that I've talked to frequently about my circumstances)...does that help at all? Maybe they'll be on the CR committeee, who knows?
Gosh, I sound pretty neurotic...my parents think I'm being way too obsessive compulsive about it all, but they just don't understand what agony I'm (and we all are) going through right now. I would have a lot more confidence if I had a 3.5 or above, or my SAT's were higher. Till March or April, all we can do is wait and pray...

you gotta understand that if you get rejected it's not the end. There are millions of doctors (turst me I know atleast two) who barley spoke English when they started in the community colleges. If you really want to achieve something it's not important where you start. You can always transfer to the UW and still have a great career and life.

sigh...I suppose so. still crosses every appendage with ferocity

I was admitted out of state (CA), last year, with and academic index of 59. My stats were average at best (3.31 GPA and an 1150 SAT). So everyone who is worrying about getting in w/o a 70 on the admssions index has hope.

your personal essay/EC's must ve been good because UW generally doesnt let average outta staters in...a lot of pple also seem to be getting answers this week who have 58+ AI.

No offense buddy; But I know a lot of sons and daughters of friends in THIS STATE who did not get in with stats much higher than what you reported. And the papers are full of UW officials going on about how they are turning away qualified in state candidates because of budgetary constraints. As a tax payer in THIS STATE I don't care what your essays may have been like, you don't get in until every kid in Washington who applied with higher stats gets in. I have checked the California system out of state admits and it is much lower than Washington's, and I understand.

well what do you expect when the state keeps cutting funds going to the UW...they UW can't keep all their staff and programs with washington residents alone...you also gtta think about it, about 10% of students in WA go to other states so it shouldnt be unusual to see about 10% of students from the UW being from other states. And I'm pretty sure husky's case was unusual because I've never heard of stats that low from outta state.

I got in! (3.651/1220)

Congratulations! Since my memory is failing, are you the person that applied in November and then waited till February for an intial review? Do you mind recounting your app. history. Thanks.

Ya I know my exact stats because it is reported on the myuw.washington.edu website, which I can access at any time. I realize I was probably on the lower end of the admissions scale but then again I don't know how UW admissions weighted my community college classes that I took in high school and yes I was admitted during the further review period in March last year.

I sent in my application the 12th of November. I got an initial review around the 8 of January and my status change to "reviewed" on the 28 of February and I was accepted Today.

My friend got in today.. don't know their stats cause won't say, but definitely under 70 AI. Probably around 3.6-3.7 GPA and prob 1100s SATs
