Under-Represented Minorities

I've heard some talk of easier applications for URM to schools like Harvard. If there's any truth to that, I might give it a shot next year.

Anybody feel like elaborating on the difference in acceptance for under represented minorities?

Take a look at CC's Harvard board archives and look at the stats and ECs and honors for those who were admitted and rejected. You'll find some outstanding URMs who were rejected, so don't assume that one gets a free pass for being a URM.

Ah, that's what I was assuming. I wouldn't think that most U.S. colleges would discriminate based on race in any way, I just kept hearing people say, "Chances are (x), unless you're an URM, in which case they're (Y)."

And in the archives, are there areas for those who were accepted/rejected, or just spread out? Guess I'll just go check.

Thanks.

Kids who are not URM's have lower chance for same stats in being admitted whereas URMs have higher chance being admitted for similar performing non-URM. Due to lack of resources or whatever reasons, there are few in overall numbers who are performing on same level as non URMs. Thus, based on demand and supply rule, equal performing URM have better chance to get in. It does not mean that elite colleges are admitting underperforming URM's;
