Under-Represented Minority?

Simple question:
Although people of Filipino decent are highly under-represented at the top tier schools, are they still considered URMs?

I don't think Filipinos are URM's, from what I hear from (Filipino) seniors that have higher rates of getting rejected with similar stats of African-Americans or Hispanics (who get in more frequently).

I'm not completely sure though.

i think they are classified as asian.

There's a lot of controversy about classification as Asian or Pacific Islander. But doesn't under-represented minority -mean- under represented?

In top tier schools such as Harvard, Yale, Wharton, etc. it seems as if there are rarely Filipinos. They are visible minorities, no doubt. It seems odd that they wouldn't be URM, especially when their representation at Ivys are very low.

Well, I'm a Filipino, and I have a pretty Hispanic last name. Would that work to my advantage? lol...

Just worry about the stuff you can control, such as your grades, test scores, and extracurriculars =]

I thought you were going to ask if you were a URM as a Gekko. I would say yes!! Filipino, not so much because let's face it, to colleges you fit into the Asian check box.
