I’m currently a senior in high school. I’m ranked 16 out of 410 in my class. My ACT score was a 21 not really happy about it but I made the mistake of waiting till my senior year to test. I took my SAT as well but my scores are going to be released way passed the deadline. I applied to UT Austin, Texas A&M and Houston. I got accepted to each of them. My decision is between Austin and A&M. Sadly I’m taking Pre-Cal this year. I’m a little embarrassed to be honest. For UT Austin I need a Calculus credit to even be considered for Engineering. They gave me a few options regarding what I could do and one of them was to take the ALEKS test. This is the first time I’ve heard of it. Would it increase my chances if I take it and score good? I am currently under review for A&M engineering. The recruiter that went to my school told me to apply she said you never know, but my confidence is starting to go down. The major I chose was Aerospace Engineering. Are my chances good? If not what do I do if I don’t get accepted. Is that the end or is there hope?
You do not need calculus to be admitted to UT Austin engineering. You just need to be ready for calculus.

Note that Texas A&M admits to a pre-engineering program. You must compete by college GPA to enter your desired engineering major later.

It says I must submit it before the official admission application deadline. I have until June 1st to accept admission. Is it talking about that deadline. This is for UT Austin. And thank you so much for replying!
Was your SAT or ACT math score above the stated threshold? If not, can you take the ALEKS test soon, or retry the SAT or ACT?
I still haven’t received my SAT score my ACT was not, and I can take the ALEKS test is it best to take it right now? I don’t know about the SAT or ACT they already reviewed my application.
Call the phone number on the web page to find out what you can do.
Engineering is very competitive at both UT and TAMU. However, no one gets rejected early and scores received by the end of December will get consideration. For UT:
It’s technically past the deadline to use ALEKS to meet the requirement but since they accept December SAT/ACT scores, perhaps they will accept a December ALEKS score.
If you don’t get your major you will be asked to choose from among open majors at the end of the application cycle.
