Underachiever...

Hey Guyz,

I am a senior IB Diploma student..wanna know my chances for RD.

School: competitive public (~400 in gr.12) in BC, Canada
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Chinese, Canadian Citizenship

SAT I: Highest all: 2190, Highest combined: 2250
SAT IIs: Pending

Courses: Most Rigorous (5Higher levels, 2 Standard Levels, 1 TOK, = Full load IB courses)

Recs: one teacher checked almost all in top few in my career and the rest in top 2/3% and the other teacher i think in top 2/3 or top 10. I dunno what's considered good but she MADE me read it and asked me what i wanted..i was just like "it's fine" LOL, i didn't know what to say ...
Counselor Recs: Top 10% in everything...gar. so mad.

Grades: i think my GPA is ~3.5-3.8 (this term) - 7 A's, 1 B this yr. IB Predicted: 36-38..dunno yet?

Awards: Gr8/9 Top academic (in my old hs) Gr 9/10 Top math, Top English, Top Science (separate awards), random music awards, community service award for 550 hours (in gr.11), science awards (provincial level), Canadian morehead semifinalist (interview tmw), math awards in earlier grades, published in newspaper and (inter)nationally recognized science journal, other random stuff i can't remember....i'll add when i have time..

ECS: some random stuff..newspaper v.EIC, community council vPrez, tutor (3 hrs/wk), scientific research w/ profs, violin, won awards in music, community service. etc,

wait..before i get flamed...change title "underachiever"...

FIVE HLs?!! That's insane.. I don't think anyone in my school's ever taken more than 4 HLs at once. I don't think my IBC would even let anyone take five! Kudos to you for that :)

I don't want to say anything about chances.. I've grown wary of these threads. You seem like a solid candidate though.

lol, but ppl from my school (LOTS) are applying to the same universities as i am...some of them have predicteds >40...would universities just accept them over me bec of lower marks? I am pretty sure my ECs are better but i can't guarantee =( (+the fact that i need fin.aid)

sigh so worried.

You started this same thread in EVERY SINGLE IVY LEAGUE FORUM. Nobody respond to this. If you want your chances, you to the FORUM DESIGNATED FOR IT.

desertman/lynda/kiria: bec u are/is (god, this is hard on the grammar =D) the same person, plz just look at my response to ur other post in all my threads. dun hate me, u already got into ED, no need for competition, even though we are from the same school =)

5 HL's..!!!! lol

I'm curious...how are you taking 5 HLs when IB's maximum is 4 HLs?

Aretsuya: My brother graduated from IB two years ago, so he knows about this. You can take more than four HLs, but only four will show up on your diploma. The rest will be certificate courses.

ali_liu:

"You" is always followed by "are." How is this hard on your grammar?

Regarding your stats, THE PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD ARE NOT IVY LEAGUE ADMISSIONS OFFICERS. We're students/applicants, just like you. How should we know whether your scores will get you admitted or not? Do we look like we hold part-time jobs in the admissions offices where they vote on applications?

Posting your stats once or twice to get a sense of how you can improve is fine. However, it's extremely pointless to go around CONTINUALLY doing so--this just makes it seem as if you're fishing for compliments. If you're looking for someone to tell you, "Wow, ali_liu, those are the best stats ever!" then you're going to be disappointed, because they're not. If you're looking for someone to tell you that you're a sure admit, then you're also going to be disappointed. People with higher scores than you have been rejected, and people with lower scores than you have been admitted. All that we can tell you is that you have a chance of being admitted, just like any other person who applies to an Ivy League university.

My biggest advice to you: Just chill before you burst a blood vessel or something.

Hey Ginny, how r things going with Harry? I'm sorry u two broke up, but I hope u guys can work something out.

yeah seriously, also why is your title underachiever?

Lolol, wrathofgod!! But seriously, I was sad about the breakup too :P!

you'll make up in the next book, i'm sure of it! ;)

hilary6, pay attention to her 2nd post.

ali: u have a good chance, don't worry. Look at my yale post on "Ugly Harvard Students". It's really funny!

underachievers have low grades and high sats cause theyre smart but dont try in school, you have low sats and work very hard in school
therefore you are an overachiever

she doesnt have low SAT grades... you think a combined 2250 is low? jeez thats harsh

sorry for causing all this trouble! plz let this thread die...I am happy to inform u that i shorted my college list, here's the final ones i am applying to:

Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, and UPenn...thanx for all the support! =)
