Underachievers: 3.3 GPA or less, 2000+ SATS

2280 SATs (740 CR, 750 M, 790 W) and 3.38 gpa. Sorry I don’t fit the criteria exactly, but I had a 3.0 on the dot junior year, and freshman year was my best. Downward trends ftw.

CornellPerson, welcome to my world. Downward trend just sums up my transcript; every semester seems to have a pattern of decreasing by .1.

I too have a UW GPA of 3.44 (WILL decrease taking out non-academic & freshman (my best) year), Weighted of 3.55. Extremely low, and probably either in top 20% or 30%. But I have an SAT of 2190 (cr 740, m 730, w 720) and have no idea where to apply.
Currently I’m looking at applying early decision for a super-reach, then facing reality with less prestigious ones in RD.

2.7 32 Act(1420ish) here applying to Mich, MSU, Minnesota, Bama, Loyola Chicago, Fordham, Pepperdine, Wisconsin, Umich Dearborn, Case Western, and LSU.

regina, you are not an underachiever

nocrackup we have the same sat score (2190) with almost exactly the same score in each section and nearly the same class rank (ill most likely be top quarter). if u want id be glad to help find u a suitable school based on your location/desires

Err, okay, you obviously know best. :)

To people who have posted in this thread – if you’re like me you probably thrive on being an underachiever, but do you ever stop to wonder “what if” I had worked hard and gotten the grades I’m capable of getting? I know that I could never be a cutthroat hard worker because that’s not who I am – I have never paid attention in classes or done work if a subject doesn’t interest me – but sometimes I feel bad when I see the people who worked their butts off for high GPAs and can’t get the SAT scores to go with it, while a lot of us are handed SAT scores in or near the 99th percentile and don’t work hard enough to have a high GPA. Do you ever question whether things would be different now if you had you worked hard and gotten better grades?

brando2222 - I will PM you my location/desires, and I’d be beyond glad to receive help in finding a suitable school. Thank you so much!

regina- not to pipe in on a convo i’m not apart of but, YESS. I do the same thing- i barely tried in a lot of classes but turned out with b/b+s. which isn’t bad at all i’m just lazy! ppl with my gpa from last years graduating class from my high school got sats in the 1700s and somehow i pulled out in a different range. some ppl in the top ten got low sats too while people like me have sats on the “lower” (its all relative though!) end by the 3.0-3.3 uw range have higher sats. go figure!

When I said it amounted to a full ride, what I meant was that it felt that way to me, regardless of why they gave me the money. I explained that rather poorly. And no, the Odyssey package I got was loan-free.

i’m in the same boat, 3.09 uw gpa, 2120 sat.
i’m shooting for american, bu, gwu, pitt, unc… but not sure how colleges are going to interpret my lowww gpa. i also didnt bother explaining it in any of my essays. i mean, im not diseased or depressed or anything like that… im just lazy and i can’t help it. underachievers ftw! haha. and if it makes any of you feel better, my gpa follows a pretty embarassing downward trend. i hope this post boosts some lurker’s confidence out there. my life is a fail. :/

Junior year of high school I had a 3.31UW GPA and an SAT score of 2170. Senior year I actually tried in school and achieved A’s in every class and on every exam (5 APs in school, two online). I applied to Reed, Skidmore, Bucknell, Lafayette, New College, Hampshire, Lewis & Clark, Kenyon, Eckerd, Colgate, and a few others I wasn’t very interested in. I was accepted EDI to Reed and had to withdraw every other application (which was a pain).

Don’t be lazy, people. There’s really no excuse.

3.2ish unweighted, ACT: 30. GPA low due to learning disability, personal/family issues, taking insane course loads, and some crazy online courses. Applying to American, East Carolina, Emory, Duke, NC State (Deferred EA), Northwestern, Oxford College of Emory, UChicago, UNC, and Vanderbilt. Maybe I’ll get in somewhere. =/

3.3UW, 31 ACT, rank top 20%. Low grades are 5 Cs (semester grades) scattered through grades 9, 10 and 11. Accepted ED and attending Carleton College which was a high reach with my GPA. Also accepted at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology and Trinity (TX) with a $7,500/yr merit scholarship. Withdrew all other apps after the ED decision came in. My course rigor, ECs (NASA internship, Eagle scout, more) and awards (national Debate awards, regional service awards) offset my low GPA. Get involved outside of class and don’t be afraid to aim high, especially for schools that consider applicants holistically.

3.3 GPA, 2350 SAT. Applied to UChicago, Vassar, Reed, Whitman, Mount Holyoke, Union, Sewanee, St. John’s College (MD), Trinity U (TX), and DePauw. Fully expecting to be rejected from UChicago for obvious reasons, and from Vassar because it’s a reach and I sent them the most awful essay I’ve ever written, for some reason. Hopefully, I’ll get into a couple of the others :)
