Underage citation

Does anybody know how ones acceptance into Penn might be affected by a charge of underaged drinking.

I would assume very negatively since no college smiles on underage drinking, not even the part Ivy.

I think it will definitely require an explanation, but I don’t think they would rescind you for it as long as you don’t repeat it.

How about if the person has already been accepted?

I’m not sure about how your acceptance is affected, but just know that on campus, Penn’s alcohol policy is fairly student-friendly. Many times, RAs (the person in charge of your hall in the dorm) will just ask you to pour it out and give you a warning if you’re caught with alcohol in the room. If you go to an off-campus frat party or BYO, it is basically socially acceptable to drink, regardless of age.

Penn is very relaxed in dealing with alcohol related incidents. In the dorms RAs seem to adopt the unofficial policy that if they can’t see/hear you drinking, they will not interfere. The only consist way to get written up is to make a lot of noise. As for parties, even if the police shut a party down, they have never in my experience paid any attention to underage drinking. There is also the medical amnesty policy so if you get your friend help you will never get in trouble for underage drinking. However on an important note, you are still responsible for any crimes (property damage etc) you have committed while being intoxicated.

Thank you so much for your answers. Feeling a little bit better about what to expect for my daughter. Senior in high school, accepted to Penn, just received a citation for underage drinking. ugh

If you are under 18 yo, your underage record is sealed. No one needs to know.

If you are 18 or older, you don’t need to report it because its not a felony citation. Don’t sweat it. Kids do stupid stuff, adults get it.
