underage penalties?

i've always wondered about this and just never thought to ask...

what are the penalties for underage drinking and marijuana at nu, if you happen to get caught?

I remember we all had to learn this, but I've forgotten most of it...I do know that the Evanston fine (which applies to NU) for underage drinking has been upped to $500...and I believe there is also some sort of "school" repercussion...

for the first time? there isn't like a strike system? weird...

Nope, no strike system...Evanston used to be a dry town (huge founding place for the prohibition), and they tend to have very strict rules about alot of things...just this year they upped the fine to $500 and prohibitied underage students from being in bars after midnight. Also, bowling is illegal.

Skipping is also illegal.

but is the enforcement strike? and is enforcement on campus strict?

Strike System? In my community you get a $300-1000 fine, 50 hours comm. service, 6 month drive's license suspension, and a minimum one week suspension from all school activities for a first time offense. I thought it was about the same punishment everywhere.

damnnn. well my town's a little...different.

anyway, i guess i should have been clearer. what is NU's, not Evanston's, policy/procedures for it? Like if an RA catches you, or something...then what? i've only really talked about this with friends that go to OSU, which is obviously different.

You can get written up and might have to meet with administration. If they're nice they'll give you a warning. (RAs have come in and been like... you have 10 minutes to get everyone out of this room, so when I come back it better be empty and dry. That kind of thing.)

That stuff about fines is all through evanston and the city police, none of that will have anything to do with your status at northwestern. Drugs are no good, I'm pretty sure its zero tolerance, and suspension. I'm sure some people still do it though, live on south campus if you're into that. As far as alcohol goes it's kind of lax. My friends got caught in their dorm, and they did get written up. They went got an official warning and that was it. One of my friends asked the person how it went and she gave some answer like you get three strikes and then you have to move to foster-walker(an all-singles dorm), which doesnt make much sense but is cool.

on the foster walker bit, they don't just move you to the building, but to the "healthy living" floor...a substance free section of the building. Also, maybe it's just my particular dorm, but I've seen way more substance abuse up North than down here.

oooh, alright. Yeah, that would make alot more sense about the foster-walker bit. North campus has alot more drinking, but the only times I've heard of people smoking pot is south campus, like in willard, and south campus just has the artsy vibe, thats probably a stereotype and there are some on north that do as well though.
