I'm thinking of doing accounting at urbana champaign, but how will that mobilize me for the real world?

i know many chicago firms hire urbanas accounting majors before they even graduate yet, but what are some of the more detailed aspects?

also, basically just put eveyrthing you know, thanks!!

ps, is that program prestigious? (despite being ranked 1st by USNEWS, i need confirmation)

So you don't believe US News but you'll believe someone on this board who you don't even know?

lol.......................

I will tell you this, if I was a hiring manager at an accounting firm, or a manager of an accounting department of a large corporation... I wouldn't give two ****s about where the student went to school just as long as he/she had a degree, and has proven their work ethic, flexibility, and/or a solid track record of experience mixed with the right attitudes to do the job. Accounting is one of those programs that I wouldn't put too much on what USNEWS says, seriously.

311Griff, I think your totally corrrct. I go to really a basic four year university, where recruiting is pretty much regional(at best) and placement isn't the best, but for the accounting program, students gets jobs with PriceWaterhouse, Kemper, BKD, Ernst & Young etc.. as long as you keep your grades high 3.5+ with some experience, you should be able to get an accounting job fairly easily. Same goes with nursing.
