Undergrad applicants at record high

There has been a 16 percent increase in applications to the University.

Yep. 33k applicants is a lot for 5,350 spaces.
Probably would’ve gone if they accepted me instead of waitlist. Most likely no one will get off the waitlist. -_-

It just makes getting into Carlson look better and better :)

So they have 5,350 spots in the freshman class, but how many did they actually admit? I’m guessing the admitted about 10K-15K students?

5350 spots??? so its like only 18% of applicants can get in???did i do the math wrong?

u did the math correctly~~~
but acceptence rate won’t be scary since not all admitted would enroll, as AT9 said~

vic12, the freshman class will be about that size. And if that’s all they admitted, then that would be the acceptance rate. But like tonyCC said, they have to admit more people than what the class size is because not all admitted will enroll. So in reality the acceptance rate is probably somewhere in the 30’s or 40’s… which is still pretty competitive.

Ugh. Maybe that’s why I just got denied from the College of Biological Sciences for transfer admission with a 4.0 GPA and a 31 on the ACT. Bad time to be applying there, I guess!

I am a reporter at KSTP and we’re looking for high school seniors who have been recently accepted or rejected by the University of Minnesota. Please reply ASAP: coconnell@kstp.com

Wow, I applied to the U of M as my “super” safety school. Even though I was accepted, I didn’t realize just how competitive it has become to get in…they’ve really changed things over the last few years.

Thanks for telling me this! AT9 and tony.:)

NorthernLights, I agree. I applied as a safety school, and didn’t get into my top choice. But I’m still deciding between the U and somewhere else, but just because of this information makes me kind of want to go to the U. Because of the competitiveness, (I know a lot of people at my school were rejected/waitlisted) and that their sports teams are getting better, and the new football stadium.

Wow, channel 9.

anyone knows how is the gopher football team???

btw, can we bought football season ticket as we are not “current” student?

The Gophers haven’t been doing so great for a while now. I’m a little biased because I’m always rooting for the OSU Buckeyes, but I think anyone will tell you that the Gophers aren’t a very strong team. HOWEVER, their new stadium is finally opening this year. They’ve been playing in the Metrodome for years, which isn’t even on campus! This new stadium should really help boost support and enthusiasm for the team, which should help them perform better.

I don’t know about your second question, sorry!

oh…I hope they will be getting better:)

although they aren’t great right now, they should continue to improve with Brewster and his new recruits along with a new stadium they could be a serious threat by 2010…or maybe 2011…

The basketball team is on the way up as well. Two top-15 recruiting classes in a row by Tubby.

Tubby got the basketball team to the Tourney this year, which is excellent.
Football should be average this upcoming year (8 wins maybe).

Gosh, I really want to go here. :/

honestly i doubt the u’s acceptance rate would drop below 40%. even 45%.
