Undergrad B Schools Rec

I'm going to make this breif, w/o all that EC garabge that lasts 20 lines. I've done my fair share of EC (leadership, comm. service, clubs, etc.) I've taken pleanty of APs and honor classes and my course load would be considerd difficult.

ACT: 29 (read 29, math 29, eng 22, sci 35)
GPA 3.2/4.0
Location: Texas
Rank: Top 25%

I know there's only so much writien here but I'm looking at Notre Dame, U Mich, UT, C Mellon, Georgetown, Cornell (reach..but my pref. right now). Indiana (Kelly) is my saftey b/c my 29 gains me auto. accept. (plus b-weekly ranked it #10 in ugrad programs...not too bad?). I used B-Weekly to compose my list of schools and I'm in the process of choosing which is best for me. Does anyone have any suggestions for other schools with a good b-program and/or opinions about my choices so far (chances, good/bad program etc.)? Thanks!

Alex

Is the 3.2 W or UW? If W, besides Indiana, I don't think you can make the business school in any of your other choices.

The GPA is unweighted on a 4.0 scale.

Look at BC, Richmond, and UMD- CP. All have very good business programs and seem more like matches for you. Besides UT and Indiana those are all reaches, with the exception of Georgetown and Cornell which could be considered super reaches.

With those grades: Indiana and UT(in-state) seem to be the only schools you have a good chance at.

-Notre Dame, U Mich, C Mellon, Georgetown, Cornell are all schools with students who are in the top 5-10% of their class, have high GPAs, and higher test scores.

If I were you I would look at schools like these: SMU, A&M, JMU, Arizona, Arizona State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Penn State, Univ. of Maryland - College Park, Santa Clara University, etc.

UT would be a reach, with top 25% you would probably have to do the CAPS program for UT. You'd probably have a good shot at Indiana.

UT B school is actually more than a reach...I believe McCombs is currently impossible for you. To be admitted fresh out of high school, you have to be top 3% at your high school. Which is an awful, awful rule.

If I were to apply to any of thoes schools ED (except UT, IU, GTown, and Cornell) , do you all tink that there could be some chance...say Notre Dame or C Mellon? Could UT be considered a saftey?

brand, on the McCombs web page that say that 25% of applicants that are accepted are not in the to 10. I have a few friends who graduated from my school this year who were not in the top 10, but had great test scores and made it in to McCombs. So maybe a small chance...there's alwasy interanl trans.

well that's good then, i wish you the best of luck. I had just heard that from someone on another UT thread, and a girl was disappointed that she was only in the top 3.4% and that she couldn't get in. But if not, that's good. I would say that is an awful rule if it's true.

No UT McCombs is a reach. The people in the other 25% have like 2150+ SAT scores and excellent ECs. If you increase your ACT you might have a chance.

i highly doubt you will get in at IU or Texas as a direct admit. IU's not a joke, the amount of direct admits is lower than you would think. i just dont think a 3.2 will cut it for them, to be honest.

Beacuse I gpt a 29 on my act, I thought I was automatically accepted to Kelly (IU). Read this: http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ugrad/admission/requirements.cfm

violinguy: actually you need to meet all of the criteria. The site never says that just meeting one leads to direct admit. You need to meet all 3 criteria:

If you meet the following criteria, you will automatically be offered direct admission to Kelley before entering IU:

-Already admitted to IU Bloomington and indicated business as your intended major
-SAT composite score of 1270 or ACT composite score of 29
-Top 10 percent of high school class or 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale

just go somewhere else and transfer, cuz you're not gonna make it into any of the schools you listed :T

So I take it a 3.2 is that bad huh?

Don't let anyone discourage from applying. You'll never even have a chance to get in if you don't apply. Remember, these are not the people who are reading your application, it's just speculation based on past statistics.
