So I'm only a Junior in high school right now but I've been looking into USC's BCA program for a long time now and was just wondering if anyone has more information on it, considering their website is pretty vague. They say only about 50 people are accepted each year so I know it's prestigious, but is anybody actually enrolled in the program and knows how difficult it really was to get in? Like what do they look for on the application? Also, are there any other universities with similar programs? I know NYU has one but theirs requires summer school (whereas this one lets you have an internship) and it seems that it focuses on the overall creative aspect of film itself rather that the business and logistics of it. All answers appreciated!

bump!

I’m happy to answer any questions as best I can, my son is in the BCA program (2nd semester junior). More than 50 apply for the program and it is quite competitive; the only hard data point I have is that he has a friend at SC who applied with a 3.75UW/30 ACT who was accepted to Marshall but didn’t not get accepted to the BCA program.

I think one big factor in acceptance is showing an interest and experience in entertainment as part of your extra-curricular activities. My son was a ‘competitive’ musician all through high school. His supplemental BCA essays talked a great deal about that experience and how it got him interested in the business side of entertainment.

Even if you don’t get into the program you can take many of the same classes as the BCAs. The downside would be that there are some events and mentoring counseling that is specific to the cohort. SC is very aggressive in helping students make connections with alumni in the industry.

I know of no similar program at other universities.

@vinceh that helped quite a lot, thank you!
