What are people saying about the new Brandeis undergrad business major. Since it is so new I am not finding any independent write ups on it. Does anyone have any insight into its possible reputation or how students are enjoying it. My daughter is interested in the B school and she is also looking at U. of Rochester which I think is similar since they are both relatively new undergrad programs. Thanks in advance.

I know that the intro to econ class is a prereq, and it fills up so quickly because Prof. Coiner is amazing according to all sources. :)

The grad programs are pretty well-known, so naturally that’ll bleed over. I can’t offer any specifics since I’m a CS major, but I’ve heard good things from my classmates so far.

As a current student and business major, I can speak a lot about the business school. It’s most definitely growing, and the reputation improving. First, the facility is new and absolutely beautiful. The professors are all very knowledgeable, and many teach both undergraduates and graduates. In addition, many are very acclaimed in their fields.
Despite being a new program, it is very popular to be a business major at Brandeis. However, to maintain a high caliber, the business major is the only Brandeis major to have students apply. I just went through this process myself, and it basically requires students to be Sophomores and have taken Financial Accounting and Functions of a Capitalist Enterprise (basically into to business classes), along with the Introduction to Economics prereq. Students apply with an essay, their resume, and their transcript.

Aside from the business school, Brandeis is an amazing school and I can only speak highly of it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Even though you have to apply, they really don’t reject very many people, do they? That’s what the school told me. I don’t want my son to apply to schools that don’t automatically admit almost everyone to the b-school (like Michigan). Because if you want to be a business major then you’re stuck.

I met a kid who happens to be a business major at Brandeis and he said he loves the school and he loves the b-school.

BTW - is that a serious problem - getting into the econ class that’s the prereq?

It’s not too bad, from what I hear, but people should make sure Intro to Econ is in their shopping cart when they register and if registration is happening through enrollment appointments (you can only register 4 credits this day, then 4 the next), to make registering for that class a priority. There is a “shopping period” where you can add and drop classes without any effect, but I doubt anyone drops Coiner’s class.
