Trying to help with the college decision…struggling
Son is out of state to all and with scholarships all relatively the same cost. (Which is not the biggest factor).
Son got direct admit to Wisconsin undergrad so that makes it a plus. Besides the cold it checks a lot of boxes. He is sports fan and want the traditional undergrad experience.
Tulane he loves the school but not sure about the business program but smaller sports feel.
Florida like Wicconsin checks a lot of boxes but never been to Gainesville. Lot of talk about online learning. Business school seems good just dont know Much about it. ? More regional
Also got into but less likely
Miami seems cooler campus. Has sports. But business school maybe not as strong. Cost highest here
UCSB ?highest rank school but no real business school but economics . Beautiful campus but furthest from home. No real sports program
@eastcoast20 What does he sort of want out of his college experience? I think that would be the most helpful thing to bring up for this discussion. If you prefer PM, I’m happy to do that, but I go to a good private school and the experience is sooooo different from my friends at large state schools. Not necessarily better, but so different.
Florida has a decent business school, especially if he wants to study Accounting. Sports is HUGE over there, especially football.
UCSB is beautiful, but I don’t think the school is nearly as good as its US News ranking would suggest. It has a reputation for being a HUGE party school. It’s also extremely expensive to live anywhere near there, and getting out and doing things will break the bank. Santa Barbara is beautiful, but doesn’t have much to do for anyone who is the least bit budget minded.
Wisconsin is a great university, and decent sports program similar to Florida. Madison is a great town too. It’s true that it’s cold, but I think you get used to that if you dress the part.
Tulane is another good school, but not sure about the business program. New Orleans is a huge party town, but from what I’ve heard, Bourbon Street gets old FAST, and parts of the city are quite dangerous. They do have some sports programs, but they aren’t a huge part of college life the way they would be at Wisconsin or Florida.
Wow thanks. Business at Wisconsin seems a little higher rank then Florida but not sure if Florida business has other undergrad requirements before entering. Any insight on pre business at Florida
@eastcoast20 Be advised that @BBeatty is a sophomore in high school with no first-hand knowledge of any of these schools. You would be better served to go to the individual forums for these schools to do your research. That way you will have a better chance of hearing from someone with some working knowledge to draw from. Yes, you will likely encounter some confirmation bias within each school’s forum, but as long as you consider that and ask questions specific to that particular institution, you are more likely to gain useful insights.
You have to be cautious on these boards as they are rife with those willing to offer up their perception or opinion that may or may not be rooted in actual experience. So when trying to obtain information in these forums to help you make an important decision, make sure you understand the experience it is based upon in order to help you decide whether it is credible.
Not really sure why this user is so concerned with my level of experience. I provided a response to the best of my knowledge. Yes, it is important to be cautious on messege boards and you have to take every response with a grain of salt, but that is true ANYWHERE on the internet. Not sure why this user chose to make a lengthy post about it, while neglecting to provide a response to your question of his/her own.
