fordham, babson, or bu?

CBA at Fordham is AWESOME. If you apply yourself the contacts and internships are AMAZING. Even for Freshmen. You will work hard, but its worth it.

how awesome? elaborate

Ditto the above comment.

is fordham's business school really good because of it's location and internship opportunities or is the curriculum actually better than those of bu or babson?

Fordham has poured a lot of its money into CBA the last few years and the business school has made its way to #27 in the rankings in the last few years.

Alll due to Diversity

what does diversity have to do with how good the business school is

In an earlier post I mentioned an article in BusinessWeek regarding this
subject
Playbook: Does Your School Make The Grade?
The article suggests Fordham's location does give it's students the upper hand in internship opportunities but their four year business program might give students an extra edge as well.

i'm in cba right now. i think their classes are a joke. going into my junior year. with some professors you just wonder, what the hell are they doing even teaching....but so be it. and they'll definitely try to push accounting on you the first two years. i would say if anything, cba is good maybe because of its location and internship opportunities.

how are the classes a joke

let me start off with account as that's the one i have the most issues with. they try to keep everything departmentalized so every professors teaches the same exact thing. with that comes this stupid project that has not been updated in years that continues to get used. and the tests are just multiple choice mainly with some long questions. but the catch is your professor isn't the one that makes the final since it's departmental. he gets to make up every other test but that one. so they'll usually give it little weigh compared to other finals in other classes. not to mention you'll get some practice exams from some of the professors which makes it even easier to take the final and midterms. and if you get good at using blackboard you can take more advantage of the courses in accounting since all classes teach the same thing but the professors often post up different assignments or work to aid the students.

business communications, same exact thing. some professors are a bit more anal but the same exact thing is covered essentially, but a lot of the assignments you get you don't even have to put in much work into. you can actually just make up the stuff as you go along. easy A for a class.

business law, suffers from the same thing too. all you need to do in those classes is look at the summary page of each chapter and that's it. because the professor will cover the assignment and go over the chapter in class.

Info Systems is cake as well. it's mainly learning how to use excel and powerpoint and how computers work in the business world context. tho this may be more of a challenge to others if they aren't as good at computers.

That's five classes so far I can tell you about.

The liberal arts classes are intellectually speaking a lot more stimulating and challenging. All the professor adjuncts and teacher assistants in CBA just make it a joke for some classes. They're just easy. I'm not an overachiever either. And that's not to say your Major classes will be the same because they aren't at all.

If you come into CBA one thing you'll hear is that we're called the Coloring Book Academy. Can't say I disagree with it. Everything is basically handed to us. If you screw it up then I'm not sure what to tell you. And don't think I say this because I hate CBA. I don't. I prefer CBA over Fordham College because of the fact that the classes are much easier, we get more leeway in signing up for classes (not having to deal with pin codes or foreign language reqs), and the internship opportunity are great. If I weren't in an unpopular major, I would be taking advantage of a lot of those internships.

ok, so there is no foreign language requirement - but can you take foreign language if you want to in CBA?

yes you can still take CBA. It's optional and it doesn't affect the requirements you need. just that some classes you'll end up taking in sophomore year that you may have taken in freshman year. of course that's for my class. i've heard some say that now they will start making it a requirement for students to take foreign language for one year.

anyone else have comments about CBA?

I went to CBA and loved it. I have my CPA and now am in a T20 law school.

im in a similar situation as you: fordham, bu, or rit
does anyone know how fordhams buisness school stacks up against others?

I have a similar problem... Fordham or BU. I'm probably going to end up at Fordham. Business Week ranks Fordham as 27 up from 48 last year. BU dropped from 30 something to 42.
(These numbers are purely from memory, and may not be very accurate. For accurate numbers, check out Business Week's website.)

i wonder if fordham CBA will rise again next year

Fordham CBA is an amazing college within the University. Dean Rapaccioli is an incredible visionary and in conjunction with Fr. McShane are a major part of Fordham's rise in rankings overall. They place extremely well in major financial institutions.
