How reputable is UD's Undergraduate Business program? I haven't heard much about it, but UD is one of the colleges I'm interested in, and I definitely want to pursue business. How are the networking/recruiting possibilities, especially to New York City?

Also, how competitive is admission? I was applied Undecided, but now I realized I want to study business. Do you think I'll have a hard time transferring into a business major? Anyway I could switch beforehand?

The third annual BusinessWeek review of the Best Undergraduate B-Schools ranked UD's Lerner College of Business and Economics 24th among the nation's top 52 public university programs and 60th among schools with international accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

BusinessWeek used several criteria in ranking the schools. According to BusinessWeek, the centerpiece of the ranking was a survey of about 80,000 graduating seniors at the 127 eligible programs. Students were asked to complete a 50-question survey.

Corporate recruiters also were polled, and other factors included median starting salaries for graduates and what schools sent the most grads to 35 top MBA programs, as determined by BusinessWeek. The other criterion was an academic quality measure that consists of SAT/ACT test scores for business majors, full-time faculty-student ratios in the business program, average class size in core business classes, the percentage of business majors with internships and the number of hours students spend preparing for class each week.

Mattmoosemom, can you please post a link for business week's best undergrad b schools for the public universitys? i can only find the one where its ranked 60th thanks sooooooo much!!

Search business week's website for the links. No, I'll save you the effort: The Best Undergrad B-Schools
There is a link off of the main article to the big list, and also to side articles including one on "best ROI" (comparing reported starting salaries vs cost to attend).

Thanks, HereWeGo, for the link. That list is for all colleges, public and private, so UD is, in fact, #60. They are #24 if you only count public universities. I can't find the link for that list. Hope that clears up the confusion, marbar.

Depends. S was admitted to the College of Arts & letters for English, he's now more interested in Econ, and Lerner is a different college. We visited and spent about a half hour with a very helpful adviser in the business school before the admitted seniors tour. Just walked in and asked, they fell all over themselves to explain things. Very refreshing.

For an Econ major (BA or BS), at least, crossing over appears to be do-able, as is a double major, from the College of A&L. Accounting and Finance are harder to get into from other schools, and double majors outside Lerner are not allowed. We didn't discuss the Int'l Business, Management, or MIS programs. The good news we were told is that freshman year courses emphasize the general University requirements anyway, and admission into the business school is possible (as is stated in the catalog).

Warehouse, I suggest you read through the business school info online, and then call or visit the department and speak with one of the undergraduate advisers.

i'm a freshman here at the Lerner college with a major in accounting and finance. I'm very happy that i got in here when i did cause i really see the school climbing the rankings of business schools in the near future. We have the new excelon trading room which is a great resource, and job tool. Also, the president of the university is the former dean of the wharton school of business. He's done many things to try to bolster delaware's national and international credibility by setting up various strategic commitees to help imrpove university rankings and setting up business relations with schools in the far east. From the seniors i spoke to its not hard to get a job here, as long as you put the time and effort into it, and i constantly get e-mails saying that theres a business on campus looking for students to intern. There are also a ton of workshops run through the business department which help with getting a job. One thing i really like is that there are various different options of where you can work post graduation, as UD has connections to NY jobs, as well as Philly Jobs, and Wilmington and Newark jobs. I'm a straight A student here at the university that can easily transfer to a school with a better current ranking but i see great promise on what President Harker can do for the school as a whole, but especiaqlly the business school
