My high school daughter is currently compiling a list of colleges to attend business school at. Some of the schools appeal to her because of location and enviornment and some because of other reasons. She is still young, unsure of graduate school (MBA), and doesn't understand yet the importance of undergrad school selection for future purposes. She would like to balance choosing a highly rated undergrad school with enjoying her college years. She will soon be wrapping up very challenging high school years at a top rated high school. Please offer insight on the soul-searching process she should consider along with opinions on the business schools and the general schools at each college.

Hey Jazzy, I am in the EXACT same possition as your daughter. From what I have gathered, getting into a prestigious university is extremely helpful. That being said, if I was in the possition of your daughter I would do the following:

Attend NYU.
Apply to more schools from the top 25

Also, for schools in the top 25 without a business major, econ is appropriate. However, if attending a college with a business program, your daughter will have the ability to take a greater depth of business coarses. This will give her a better overall business perspective and will further her interest in a specific area of business.

Of coarse, if money is an issue, U of Arizona would definately be your best bet.

What are her stats? Stern is up there, but by no means the most highly rated undergrad business program. You still have time. For admission to top MBA program, which will be necessary to go far these days, she should go to the most highly rated school she can get into.

wharton. Best undergrad business education by far. No other compares, not even close...

She will also enjoy her experience as penn is known to be the party ivy.

Also I too am from AZ, don't let your child stay In-state. Neither school is very prestigious and it will be hard to get a decent job even if she does well. A friend of mine (he was at senior at BCP when I was a freshman) is graduating this month. Number 3 in his CLASS at Carey...the only job he has found is as a manager at Lazy-boy...

she should also look into schools like UVA, UMich, Berkeley which are more highly rated. I'd also suggest she visit some of the schools. Personally when I was applying I had wharton as my top choice and NYU Stern 2nd. Once I visited NYU I hated it and didnt even apply.
