Undergrad College doesn't have major

So i was wondering if it would be better to go to a college for my undergrad that had my major that i wanted, or if it really doesn't matter?

Would it be better since I would have the opportunity to explore it a little and see if i enjoy it, or just wait till my graduate program.

Thanks

Most students change their intended majors (usually more than once). Your best bet is to get into the “best” (for you) college possible and wait to specialize in graduate school. Your fields of study during undergrad and grad don’t necessarily have to be the same.

Hope this helps.

What is your intended major? I found that my current undergrad didn’t have the exact major I wanted. Instead of transferring I decided to pick a major close to it and use my electives to take classes that semi recreate that major.

Hmm, well I was intending to major in Industrial Engineering,
But not a lot of the smaller colleges offer that major.
The thing is that I don’t really want to go to a gigantic college.

Would going to a college that has engineering be Ok?
And then transferring later?

Oh, and I’ve also heard that some colleges start undergrads on their intended major courses even during their freshmen year.
So would that mean I’d be behind my peers when I start grad school?

Well, industrial engineering would be kind of a specific major. Having said that, though, I don’t know how many small schools even offer industrial engineering. Are you more interested in engineering or are you pretty set on industrial engineering?

As you guessed, not many small schools do offer it.
And unfortunately, I am pretty much set on it, or something of that nature.

It seems to me like you should find a school with that major then. My brother is majoring in Civil Engineering, and I know that he started on that track from the beginning of his Freshman year. It seems that Engineering is a major that you get started on fairly early on, and therefore you would be kind of lost at a school without your preferred major.

Hmm, I figured that might be the case, but I was really hoping for an out.
Thanks! I guess I’ll just have to deal with the big college atmosphere.
