undergrad college matter?

Im currently a freshman at university of florida with a 3.8 GPA, but i want to transfer to the university of central florida. i want to know will it hurt my chances of getting into a top law school if i transfer to a lower ranked undergrad school. some people keep telling me it doesn't matter, then others say it will matter because UF is such a "prestigious" school???

Most people on law schools admissions forums argue that undergrad prestige is either unimportant or a small consideration next to your GPA. However, there may be reason to believe that some top law schools like Yale and Stanford reward applicants who come from more prestigious UG institutions.

For all intents and purposes, the difference in prestige between UF and UCF in the eyes of the elite law schools is negligible. Even if there were a huge gap, law schools wouldn’t care as long as you maintained your GPA.

thanks this helps so much, i have been troubled with this decisions for so long. it was either stay at a school im not happy at or switch to a less prestigious school and be happy.

We spend roughly 20% of our time in law school making fun of how terrible and inadequate College education in this country is.
Two quotes:
“Modern Liberal College education, my favorite oxymoron.” -Professor
“If law school was easy, everyone would come here…like College. Its meaningful and worthwhile because it’s difficult.”- Dean

lmao @ at UF being considered “prestigious”. I think only UF students could actually say that with a straight face.

are you serious?

its a tier 1 school ranked 53, where FSU is ranked 104 LOL

Which means, neither is prestigious.

But to address your question, no, it shouldn’t significantly change your law school application.

Uh… The difference between the 54 and 103 ranked undergrad to law school admissions, even Yale/Stanford, is close to 0.

And why exactly are you LOL’ing at FSU? UCF is ranked lower, but nobody in law school admissions cares about rankings anyway. For a school to be considered “prestigous” enough to make a difference, it wouldn’t need to be justified by a US News ranking.

im pretty sure i didnt say it was prestigious because of its ranking.but i could be mistaken lol i was just saying its alot higher than fsu because the person who first made the remark probably goes there.

and i know ucf is ranked A LOT lower which is one of the reasons why im not sure if i should go there. but thanks
