Hello. This September I will be starting my Junior year at RU continuing my B.S. in Public Health. My Public Health major is already set in stone and I have already starting reading my sister's fairly new GRE book in order to prepare for the GRE to apply to graduate school in public health. I am interested in the Epidemiology/Biostatistics program in particular. Anyway, now that I am a junior and have 2 years left, and the job market is getting tougher, this summer I have considered obtaining a minor and certificate, which RU has a lot of. My sister who graduated from undergrad this May, got a minor and certificate. She landed a job two weeks after graduation, and the person hiring her said the minor and certification were a plus. Initially, I wanted to get a minor in Psychology and a Certificate in Public Health Preparedness because I only need 2 more courses to get the certificate and some of the electives for the public health major are psych courses that obviously count toward the psych minor. Even though I so far have a 4.0 in my psych minor and, frankly, the psych minor and PHP certificate are easy As for me and give me relaxation for the rest of my undergrad lol, I am now instead interested in pursuing a minor in Food Science and a Certificate in Packaging Engineering, both of which are related to each other and could be connected to public health. The minor in food science and the packaging engineering look good on my resume, but do you guys think its is a waste of time? Would the food science and packaging engineering combined help me get a well paying job working in a place such as Colgate Palmolive, for example? Would I be able to compete for food science/packaging engineering jobs effectively? Tell me your thoughts and opinions. Thank you :)
