Undergrad Research and Psych Grad Programs--What's it worth?

Without getting into too much detail... I've done my share of screwing up the last couple years. My 3.83 CC GPA and 3.35 4-year college GPA (including a B- in what was going to be my senior requirement--now I'm willingly taking a second senior requirement course, which I'll likely ace) aren't going to turn on any grad programs (I'm searching for a cognitive psych program--I can only imagine how horrible it would be if I was in clinical), but I have something else going for me: Three semesters of research, including two articles that are likely to be published, and possibly a third.

Could my research bail me out? I'm not aiming high at this point--If I can get into the local M.S. program that I'm encouraged by, I'll be happy.

research experience is the 2nd most important thing in psych grad admissions. (the first would be research match with the professor of interest)

That's great to know--I've e-mailed the head of the department, who happens to run the lab I desire to work in, and he claimed to appreciate my background and was ready to send me some articles this Summer, assuming I had been accepted. Admittedly, I didn't tell him my grades... but maybe they won't put the nail in the coffin.

Assuming that all goes well in my M.S. program, I wonder if my undergrad grades will be less of an issue when I apply for a Ph.D.
