Undergrad Research, Gimme some advice CC

I am a second year aerospace engr. I am interested in doing research at my school. However, I have very little/no experience with research within science/engr'ing. My questions are:

How did you find a prof to take you on?
What is your major (assuming you are not an engr)?
How many hours did you commit per week, NOT including your academic classes?
How do you like it so far?

Currently, I do not think that research this quarter is very realistic since I STILL don't have my work schedule b/c they are lagging it.I also happen to have very annoying classes/labs with busy work. But I wanna hear your opinions with undergrad research!!!

(Doing robotics research)

 1. Just asked him. He did a mini-interview and then I started a week later.
 2. Mech. Engineering
 3. 10+ depending how my schedule is for the week. He’s pretty flexible.
 4. Love it.

Wait…how much prior experience did you have? I have no exp…will this be a disadvantage.

-I went onto my majors website and looked up all the individual faculty research interests on their profile or group site. Sent out emails to the ones I was most interested in and my current research advisor emailed me back asking for a meeting. He just required 2 letters of recommendation attesting to my synthesis ability and then I started.

-Biochemistry

-I scheduled it as 9 hours a week, but I always end up doing more.

-It’s fun…I mean I get to play in lab all day, time flies.

Zero prior experience. But he’s one of those people who will teach regardless of whether you know it or don’t. I’ve learned more working in the lab with him than in some of classes.
