Undergrad school

So i am trying to decide which school i should go to for my undergraduate work. I could choose to go to San Francisco State for all four years and apply to get into UCLA med school or go to a CCC with a TAP program and transfer to UCLA. I can't decide which decision would be better. Does the college you go to have any impact in future employment or acceptance into a medical school? I am very unsure as to what to choose and would greatly appreciate the advice.

As Med school is your aim, I’d say 3 things to consider.

1) Choose a college that you’ll be able to excel – meaning you’ll be very happy there in order to crank academically (not one where the classes are easy). Be it SFS or MIT, for example. If you feel you’re a great fit for MIT, then by all means, strive for MIT. Once there, do extraordinary in your core classes and your premed pre-reqs.
2) The “name” of the school is secondary to how well YOU achieve in any given setting. Kinda like “does my HS offer me an advantage in getting into Yale or Harvard?”. Any HS can get someone into Yale or Harvard but it’s the student more than the name of the school that’ll make her a viable candidate.
3) Expense: med school costs can be an albatross around your neck for half your working career. Any debt you can avoid for College will mean HUGE quality of life issues when your 35 or 40 years old. MDs can get well paid but their debt repayment is monstrous as well.

Finally, there’s a dedicated pre-med forum on CC. Search around there for more advice. Best of luck to you!
