I know this is a substantially worn down topic however I consistently hear different stories. I am a student currently going to community college and I am looking to transfer eventually after this year. High school was under most circumstances considered an academic failure for me however thus far I am on pace to have 4.0 gpa this year in community. Is there any chance of transferring to main after this year or even perhaps after spending a semester at another branch. I am looking into business but I understand the difficulty to transfer into the school so I am open to other options as well. Any response is helpful, thank you.
From what I know about Penn State, I don’t think anyone can transfer into Smeal from another university/college. I’m not sure about transferring into another major. I would call the school. They are very helpful and can answer your questions.
alright i will do that thank you
I am not sure what year you are, but also, Penn State only accepts transfers freshman year, or not until Junior year.
wait, @jlhpsu what do you mean by Penn State only accepts transfers freshman year? I’m in my third year in a community college and just applied for fall 2017. I’m confused
sorry I am a freshman currently
Go straight to the source:
“Student must have completed two years (4 semesters) of full-time college coursework at another institution and/or another Penn State campus by the time of transfer to be eligible for admission” (to University Park).
“Students with less than the 4 semesters of work are eligible to transfer to Penn State, but they must transfer to a campus other than University Park (and then work with their adviser and program on transitioning to University Park as a Penn State student).”

So either you transfer to UP after two years in college or you transfer to a branch sooner, then again to UP later.
@NASA2014 @bodangles They do accept freshmen transfers, but I’m not sure they are considered “transfers” because you have to have so many credits to be considered a non freshman. My daughters friend transferred last year for second semester freshman year from another school to UP. But again, I think she was still considered a freshman. UP campus only accepts transfers for junior year…not sophomore year. That was what I was trying to say. You can get in for second sem freshman if your credits are still considered freshmen, but then after that, not until your junior year.
We have other family members who transferred for sophomore year and they had to go to a branch campus for a year until junior year.
