I’m choosing between north carolina state university or james madison. I’d like info on what life/academics are like at ncsu.
I’m majoring in comp sci if that is important to know.
This is from my son: Hi caesers, I am a freshman in Chemical Engineering at NCSU, and I love every minute of it. The classes are challenging and engaging, while the student life is great and diverse. I am in some tough courses, but I still find time for club swimming, volunteering, and friend time. I have a friend in comp sci and he really enjoys the classes. There are also great options for major changing, especially in computer engineering. Raleigh is a great city to have a university in as well. Its location and population allow for some great opportunities for internships or other experiences. I, myself, am going to England to study abroad this summer (and knock out engineering courses while I’m at it!). One other MAJOR benefit is the diverse AP course credit you can get. As a 1st semester freshman, I had enough credit already to be a 1st semester sophomore. Altogether, I can’t imagine myself anywhere else. One other thing: whether in-state or out of state, I encourage you to look up the Park Scholarship, as it is an excellent opportunity and a (relatively) easy application as far as full-ride scholarships go.
thanks for the info!
JMU is a fine school but NCSU has better name recognition nationally and is very well known in the sciences. Admission standards and rankings are also higher. Having said that, if you are in state in Virginia, JMU may be a better choice financially.
