Undergrads. In California that offer alot of research oppurtunies

Hey guys.

I was wondering if anyone had insight on how much oppurtunity to research I would have at UCI, UCSD, and basically all other UCs. Also USC and Stanford.

I'm guessing I will most likely get accepted into UCI, UCSD, and USC. (knock on wood)

Based on these colleges which would be best for my mad hoop dreams of making it to med school.

Stanford is pretty awesome for research. Nearly every premed I know, and many non-premeds, are involved in some sort of research, whether it involves immunology, developmental psychology, or filmmaking. It's relatively easy to get a position, I found... I just emailed a bunch of faculty members, some agreed to meet with me, and then I chose a lab.

This is not as helpful, but I have a friend at UCI who does biology research... I don't know how difficult it was for her to get a position, but it's possible!

UCLA has a TON of medically related research. SD also has many research programs. Basically whichever schools have a medical school (and Berkeley) will have plenty of research. I think at UCLA, 80% of the bio majors are in some kinda research. It's there, you just have to make a few phonecalls/emails.

Oh and as for ur second question, any school is fine. Out of the ones you think you'll make it into, id choose SD>USC>UCI

Thnx for the help guys. Anyone know anything about Chapman University?

good school and only getting better. movin' on up in almost all areas.

I wouldn't go to Chapman looking for biomedical science research. Stick with a UC.

i'd take UCSD. great program in an awesome location.

UCSD has a terrible social life especially among biological science majors which composes a whopping 18% of all majors. This does not include biochemistry majors in the chem dept, chem majors, or bioengineering which add more pre med anal students.

The school's name should be UC of the Socially Dead. If you can get into UCLA or Berkeley, go there instead. Although students are competitive in those majors there, they are less likely to give you dirty looks for asking for notes if you miss class or come in late. It is sad that many of the students in that department routinely study on Fridays weeks prior to a midterm and do not go out and have fun. In fact, the majority, fun for them or activities not related to studying is volunteering, doing research (which is fine if yo do other things), or activities purely related towards making one a stronger medical school applicant. In other words, they do not enjoy life and are completely socially retarded. If that is you, then you should fit right in. If you want some life other being around anal students, go to other top schools in CA like UCB or UCLA.

UCSD's biology program for undergrad is highly overranked, however, the "brand" of the program is excellent Top grades at any top school like UCSD, UCB, UCLA will often get you into Ivy Med Schools or graduate programs.

Also, from what I've heard UVA which is tied with UCB as a top public school is also something to consider. You can establish residency within a year and people there study in groups and help each other.

Michigan, is also the same as well. Plus, it's a football school so you do not have to worry about having fun on weekends since most of your classmates will be doing the same as well.

Personally, I'd look for study hard/ party hard schools. If Northwestern wasn't private, I would encourage you to apply there as well.

For the UCSD colleges though how should I rank them?
(I'm thinking: 1) Muir 2) Revelle 3) Marshall...)
Help me plz.

It doesn't matter. There is no prestige to picking a certain college like in Cambridge. Look at the GE's and their mission statement and apply to the one you think will be most sympathetic in admitting you.
