Please help me select one of the following universities for CS major based on their rankings, future job prospects and location convenience for an intl’ student such as myself.
University of Massachusetts- Amherst
Purdue University
University of Minnesota- Twin cities
Virginia Tech
Texas A&M
For me, after considering the awards, the cheapest tuition is for Umass followed by U of M and the rest.
UMass has a fine CS department. Hard to see an advantage of going elsewhere at a higher cost unless cost difference is small or doesn’t matter much to you, and there’s a particular one you’d prefer.
All of these schools are good, and going to one over the other won’t necessarily increase your job prospects as companies hire from all of these schools. Either choose the cheapest one, the place you most want to live, and/or look at the CS websites of each one and see if any offers things you’re more interested in personally.
(There’s no serious ranking of undergrad CS programs that I’m aware of.)
The most prestigious CS schools would be the top techs - Mellon, MIT, Caltech.
Also any conventional ranking list would work, as almost all schools offer CS.
Decide if you want a BA, BS or BE. All of them are fine for working in the industry, but not all schools offer all degrees.
U of M has a great CS dept, but be aware Engineering college admits have become quite selective.
I have applied to the college of engineering everywhere and have already got admission offer from purdue and umass, the confusion is that umass is giving 14k scholarship but the rankings for umass are varying vastly for different survey organizations. so I wanted to know how good is umass compared to all the others
UMass would be considered one of the top CS options of the ones you listed along with Purdue and UM.
I would go UMass given that it’s arguably the best option and also the best price.
